Discover Geslau: Hiking Trails, Karrach Lakes and Swimming
Accommodation in Geslau
Geslau offers marked trails, themed routes and swimming options. If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Geslau, you can choose local highlights to suit your travel plans: circular routes, a short accessible church walk or swimming facilities. Cultural trails in the wider Ansbach destination also offer a broader view of the region.
Trails and nature paths in Geslau
Geslau has marked hiking and cycling trails, as well as a forest and fruit-tree nature trail. The Karrach Trail is one of six newly organized circular routes in the municipality. The Karrach circular route is 4.1 kilometers long and runs from Gunzendorf toward the Karrach Mill and back to the starting point. One section follows the Way of St. James. This makes it possible to assess the route both by its length and by its course along a section of the Way of St. James.
The Karrach Mill, known locally by the dialect name “Koari,” gives the Karrach Trail its name. Beside the mill are the large Karrach Lake and a smaller one tucked away nearby. The smaller lake is mentioned as early as 1418. The mill and lakes are distinct landscape landmarks; the Karrach Trail route description identifies the mill as a point toward which the circular route leads.
Bat Trail and Church Walk
At 4.4 kilometers, the Bat Trail is slightly longer than the Karrach Trail. Five stops along the way provide information about local points of interest. The trail passes a protected bat cellar, formerly used as a beer and ice cellar by an old inn in Geslau. This gives you a choice of two routes of different lengths: the Karrach Trail is described in terms of its circular layout, starting point and direction, while the five stops and cellar are among the Bat Trail’s stated features.
The Church Walk in Geslau is short and accessible. Plenty of benches invite you to pause and meditate. If a short route with these explicitly stated features is important to you, the Church Walk offers a different focus from the two longer trails.
Swimming in Geslau
Geslau’s leisure facilities include a bathing pond, a heated outdoor pool in the woods and an indoor swimming pool. Together with the hiking and cycling trails, they offer a choice between activities on marked routes and swimming. Check the current status of the listed swimming facilities before your visit.
More cultural trails in the wider Ansbach destination
The wider Ansbach destination also has its own cultural trails. In Wolframs-Eschenbach, the 2.2-kilometer, accessible Literature Trail Franconia follows a circular route around the town fortifications. Fifteen information boards feature authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works have addressed Franconia. The trail thus combines a set circular route with a literary history theme.
Another themed route is the Löhe and History Trail in Neuendettelsau. It takes visitors back to the 19th century, when Pastor Wilhelm Löhe served in Neuendettelsau. The trail leads to various stops in Neuendettelsau and to the churches in Reuth and Wernsbach; each stop has an information board. The Löhe and History Trail also offers the opportunity to visit the Löhe Era Museum and the Mission Eine Welt World Exhibition.
