Gosheim combines local history with opportunities for exercise and relaxation. The tower of the Heilig-Kreuz Church is the town’s landmark; trails, a pond and Jurabad add to the picture. Nearby Lemberg also offers its own views of the landscape.

Landmarks and history in Gosheim

The tower of the Heilig-Kreuz Church has been considered Gosheim’s landmark since the 16th century. The church is also the community’s oldest surviving building. Its distinctive features include stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the history of salvation. In the past, they told biblical stories. The architecture and imagery thus bring together two aspects of the town: the church’s long-standing presence in the townscape and the windows’ former role in conveying religious stories.

Trails, water and exercise

Built in 2021, the fitness trail connects Gosheim and Wehingen as a walking and cycling route. It is around three kilometres long. This makes it one way to travel between the two towns on foot or by bike; the stated length is approximate. The Hinterhaldenteich is another place to visit for outdoor activity: benches line the small lakeside path, and a mown lawn on the north shore is available for sunbathing.

At Jurabad, the pools differ in temperature: the swimming pool is pleasantly heated, while the children’s pool is particularly warm. The facilities also include a sauna, an infrared cabin and a plunge pool. Gosheim also has three playgrounds for play and exercise. Those interested in biathlon as a competitive sport will find a comprehensive training programme for children and young people at Ski-Club Gosheim. For current participation requirements, it is best to contact the club.

Lemberg and Tuttlingen district

Lemberg lies near Gosheim, around two kilometres north of the town centre. At 1,015 metres above sea level, it is the highest mountain in the Swabian Alb. The Lemberg Tower is open at all times and can be climbed when weather conditions are suitable. From there, views extend to the Black Forest and the Neckar region; on a clear day, they reach across the Alb plateau to the Alps. Weather conditions are as important for distant views as they are for climbing the tower.

Tuttlingen district provides the wider geographical setting for the broader travel destination of Tuttlingen. Covering a total area of 734.4 square kilometres, it includes the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar region and the valley of the Young Danube. In the northern part of the district are juniper heaths and the 10-Tausender region, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high.

Other distinct destinations in Tuttlingen district offer different highlights. The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum showcases 25 historic buildings that were dismantled at their original sites, relocated there and restored to their original condition. The Danube Sinkhole between Immendingen, Möhringen, Tuttlingen and Fridingen is also a changeable natural phenomenon: in some places, the Danube carries a lot of water; in others, it dries up completely or carries only a little water.
