Hüttlingen appeals to travelers who want to include cycling and regional culture in their trip. The town lies at the Kocher bend, a pronounced curve in the Kocher River. Its surroundings are considered scenically attractive; the Roman Limes once ran through the area. The river adds a distinctive landscape dimension to the historical themes.

Cycling routes: tour character and stages

Hüttlingen lies on the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route and the Württemberger Tälerradweg. The Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route is suitable both for exploring and for relaxed cycling. The Württemberger Tälerradweg covers 273 kilometers, is divided into six stages, and passes through twelve valleys. The two routes offer different kinds of guidance: the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route emphasizes the character of the ride, while the length, stages and valleys of the Tälerradweg provide a framework for the overall distance. The municipality provides a charging station for e-bikes. If you are planning a specific trip, check that it is currently operational.

Sculpture trail between Hüttlingen and Neuler

The intermunicipal sculpture trail between Hüttlingen and Neuler features 83 sculptures along 8.5 kilometers and is divided into four sections. The works are by the Sculturies, a group of regional artists. You can complete the trail as one of two circular routes or walk the entire route. Unlike the cycling routes, the sculptures are the main focus here; the sections and circular routes offer additional guidance. The trail therefore provides a distinct cultural focus alongside the cycling routes.

Limes site and local history museum

The Limes site on the Kocher includes reconstructions of a wooden palisade and a wall. The local history museum in the Vogtei building displays exhibits on agriculture, domestic work and crafts in and around Hüttlingen; it also hosts special exhibitions. The museum grounds include a working bakehouse and a horse-powered mill. The two sites offer different points of interest: the reconstructions are the focus at the Limes site, while the museum focuses on agriculture, domestic work and crafts. As special exhibitions may change, check the current program before visiting.

Historic sites in Niederalfingen

The Marienkapelle in Niederalfingen is a cemetery chapel dating from the 14th century. Niederalfingen’s Marienburg is described as a castle in the style of a knight’s castle and is associated with the Fugger family. Together with the Limes site and the local history museum, these buildings broaden the historical themes to include other periods and types of heritage sites.

Another perspective on the Limes in the Ostalb district

Near Rainau in the Ostalb district, a signposted circular Limes hiking trail runs for about 11 kilometers and takes approximately 2.5 hours on foot. From the Limes wall and Limes tower between Buch and Schwabsberg, it passes through Mahdholz forest along the Limes to the southern edge of Schwabsberg. This offers a different format from the Limes site on the Kocher: a hiking route with a stated distance and walking time. Check local trail conditions before setting out. The Ostalb district also offers themed trails focusing on history and culture, scenic hikes, secluded lakes, rock formations and caves.
