Get to know Haslach im Kinzigtal through its museums, half-timbered old town and traces of mining. Views and hiking trails add a scenic touch. If you are looking for a hotel in Haslach, first consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay: collections and local history, a guided visit underground, or trails through forests and higher elevations.

Museums and local history

The Black Forest Costume Museum displays more than 100 original traditional costumes from the Black Forest, along with costume components and objects from rural life. The collection therefore showcases more than clothing, offering insights into everyday items from rural life as well. The Hansjakob Museum in the Freihof is dedicated to the life and work of Heinrich Hansjakob, a chronicler of life in the Black Forest who was born in Haslach. The Freihof also houses permanent art exhibitions on Carl Sandhaas and Otto Laible. The costume collection, literature and art offer different focal points if you are interested in culture and regional history.

The Path of Remembrance offers a sobering perspective. Information panels at six historic sites document the suffering of forced laborers; the route ends at the central Vulkan memorial. This walk does not take you through a collection, but connects several places of remembrance with a clearly designated destination.

Mining and special insights

The Segen Gottes visitor mine is associated with around 800 years of mining history. Its visible features include silver-bearing ore veins, crystal-lined cavities, sinter formations and stalactites. The mine also has hand-hewn tunnels and historic timber supports. Guided visits pass through three underground levels and last about an hour and a half; helmets, lamps and protective clothing are used. Duration and operating details may vary by season. Check the current visiting conditions before planning your visit.

Old town, views and trails

The traffic-calmed half-timbered old town is characterized by small shops, cafés, bistros and restaurants. As individual businesses may change over time, it is worth checking specific offerings before your visit. The Children’s Town Rally is an activity for children aged 6 to 11: it covers about three kilometers, takes around 45 minutes of walking and features 15 questions. The start and finish are at the Tourist Information; along the way, the route passes through the old town and by the monastery church. Route details may change, so check the route information before setting off.

The Urenkopfturm tower stands on Haslach’s highest local hill at an elevation of 554 meters. Its 183 steps lead to sweeping views across the Central Black Forest and beyond. For longer hikes, Haslach and five neighboring communities offer more than 515 kilometers of hiking trails, marked with the Black Forest trail-marking system. This is on a different scale from the Bächlewald forest and nature trail: this route leads via the Willy-Kern-Hütte to the Waldsee and has more than 34 forest information panels and ten activity stations. Trail and marking information may change; check it before your hike.
