This lets you combine your search for accommodation with the activities that matter to you on your trip.
Winegrowing and the legend of Dasenstein
The vineyards in the “Hex vom Dasenstein” wine-growing area around Kappelrodeck cover 180 hectares and are cultivated by around 80 winegrowing families. Almost 80 percent of Kappelrodeck’s vineyard area is planted with Pinot Noir. According to legend, the witch of Dasenstein gave Kappelrodeck wine its name. The multimedia legends trail also features the tale; it can be experienced using a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone or tablet.
The “Hex vom Dasenstein” wine cellar in Kappelrodeck is considered a wine experience center. Visitors can see an extensive medal collection in the wine cellars of Kappelrodeck and Waldulm. If you plan to visit, check in advance what visiting options are available.
Natural landmark and hiking trails
Dasenstein is a natural landmark in Kappelrodeck’s vineyards. Dasenstein Hut, located in the vineyards below the natural landmark, has seating and invites visitors to take a break. This makes a stay at this spot an opportunity to rest without requiring a particular walking time or distance.
The Kappelrodeck Hexensteig quality hiking trail connects the Acher and Rench valleys. The Dasenstein Legends Circular Trail has a different focus: it is a short, scenic hike through the vineyards outside Kappelrodeck, with a changing landscape of forest and vines, mountains and valleys. It starts at Kappelrodeck railway station, which is easy to reach by public transport. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their described character: the Hexensteig connects two valleys, while the Legends Circular Trail is a short hike through changing landscapes.
Fruit trail between Kappelrodeck and Waldulm
The fruit trail runs through the districts of Kappelrodeck and Waldulm. Its actual starting point is in Kappelrodeck, below Brandrain. Along the route, the trail passes a three-part information board and a biotope, as well as wild roses and native trees. There are also wild and honeybee colonies, stone fruit trees bearing plums and cherries, and other shrubs and wild berry hedges. The information board, biotope, trees and hedges each offer a different focus: the trail combines fruit-related topics with other natural features along the way.
Rodeck Castle and local history
Rodeck Castle is the landmark of the municipality of Kappelrodeck and was built in the 12th or 13th century. For your stay, it offers a different cultural point of reference from the legend of the witch of Dasenstein: here, the architectural history of a landmark takes center stage, while the legend tells how Kappelrodeck wine got its name.
