When planning a trip to Lörrach, choosing where to stay can go hand in hand with deciding which aspects of the town you would like to experience: art in public spaces, the history of democracy, an exhibition about the tri-border region or sweeping views. These themes offer different focuses, so you can plan around your interests rather than trying to fit every visit under a single theme.

Art in public spaces

The Lörrach Sculpture Trail invites you to discover 24 works of art on a walk through the town centre. Fountains and sculptures in the pedestrian zone are part of the trail, as are works by internationally renowned artists. The art focus can thus be experienced as a tour through the town: the route connects different types of works with the town centre and encourages you to discover them along the way. If you would like to make art in public spaces the focus of your visit, the Sculpture Trail offers a specific point of reference.

History from different perspectives

The StadtWeg (City Trail) of Democracy offers a different historical perspective: 14 stops lead through Lörrach town centre, covering a thematic span from the 1848/49 Revolution to the present day. The Three Countries Museum explores the history and present of the tri-border region in German and French. The offerings therefore differ in scale and format: the trail is tied to the town centre and a long historical timeline, while the exhibition focuses on the regional perspective. The tour through the history of the three countries leads to the Zukunftsteg; the Camera Obscura on the top floor offers a spectacular view of Lörrach town centre.

Views and culture

Rötteln Castle Ruins offer panoramic views from both towers. This makes for a different emphasis than the trails and exhibitions: here, the view takes centre stage.

Lörrach in its regional context

The wider travel destination of Lörrach is in southwestern Baden-Württemberg, in the Markgräflerland, right on the Swiss border and close to the neighbouring city of Basel. The Lörrach Three Countries Museum has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square metres. Lörrach’s weekly market has been running since 1403; this date predates the historical period covered by the City Trail, which begins with the 1848/49 Revolution. Burghof Lörrach is a cultural and events centre; its cultural programme includes singing and music, dance, cabaret, literature and children’s theatre.

From Lörrach-Tüllingen, the Tüllingen Wine Trail connects the Riehen Wine Trail with the Weil Wine Trail. The interconnected wine trails on Tüllinger Berg pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards, including the vineyard sites “Riehener Schlipfer”, “Tüllinger Sonnenbrunnen”, “Weiler Schlipf”, “Haltinger Stiege” and “Ötlinger Sonnhole”. The Tüllingen Wine Trail offers views of the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and insights into the work of winegrowers throughout the year. This gives you a specific distinction to consider when choosing a theme: the town trails lead through the town centre, while the wine trails focus on vineyards, valley views and the work of winegrowers.
