Church, museum and concert programme
The 15th-century Catholic Church of St. Martin still forms Frickingen’s original town centre. The Lake Constance Fruit Museum is at Kirchstraße 9. Orchard trails and nature
Walkers can learn about old apple varieties on the Frickingen Orchard Trail. The trail starts at the sports centre, passes through orchards and returns to the village. The Apple Circular Trail, by contrast, connects the three districts of Frickingen, Altheim and Leustetten. The two trails therefore have different focuses: the educational trail shares information about apple varieties, while the circular trail links the districts.
Those interested in other trails can also explore a section of the Lake Constance District Jubilee Trail in Frickingen: the fifth stage passes through the district of Altheim. At the “Himmelreich” wetland, visitors can admire the diversity of nature. The Weingarten Chapel stands on a hill among orchards east of Frickingen, outside the town. It is open on Sundays and public holidays from May to October; check seasonal visitor information before your trip.
Culture in the districts
In Altheim, the old cemetery adjoins the Church of St. Pankratius. The churchyard dates back to the 16th century and was closed in the 1960s. Its graves are listed as historic monuments and offer a glimpse of earlier burial customs. These traces of the past in Altheim complement the Church of St. Martin in the original town centre with a distinct perspective on historical burial culture.
Altheim is also home to the Tüftlerwerkstatt Museum: a mechanics workshop over 100 years old, powered by a water turbine, from which various “tinkerers” emerged. In Leustetten, the Lohmühle recalls the old craft of tanning. It dates from 1835. Volunteer guides set the mill wheel and connected machinery in motion for visitors. Travelling by bus
Frickingen is connected to local public transport through the bodo transport association. Bus route 7396 runs to Frickingen every hour, daily from Monday to Sunday. Its route goes via Immenstaad, Kluftern, Markdorf, Salem, Weildorf, Beuren and Leustetten. As timetables can change, check the current departure times for your travel date.
Frickingen in the Lake Constance district
The Lake Constance district extends along almost the entire northern shore of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg and reaches into the Upper Swabian Hill Country and, to the east, the West Allgäu Hill Country. Its landscape is shaped by Lake Constance and the neighbouring hill country, with orchards, vineyards, meadows and forests.
