Discover Oberteuringen: Reed paths, art and culture
Accommodation in Oberteuringen
Oberteuringen lies amid extensive orchards at the foot of the Gehrenberg; the Rotach flows through the municipality. Its landscape, trails and cultural heritage give the place a diverse character. During your stay, you can choose from longer and shorter routes, a nature trail, the Way of St. James, and art in churches and a chapel. Oberteuringen is also one of the four holiday destinations in the Gehrenberg-Lake Constance holiday region.
Hiking trails, reed beds and route planning
The local network includes more than 80 kilometres of signposted hiking and cycling trails. Some paths through the reed beds pass through the “Altweiherwiesen” and “Hepbacher-Leimbacher Ried” nature reserves. Please observe the applicable trail regulations in these protected areas. The Lake Constance Nature Trail is associated with the Altweiherwiesen: a nature trail with information boards about local flora and fauna.
For a shorter outing, Hiking Trail 8, the “Rotachweg,” is a specific option: it is 5.2 kilometres long, with an indicated walking time of about two hours. Longer routes include the “Teuringer Bächlespfad,” at 12.9 kilometres and about 5.5 hours of walking, as well as the “Alpenblickweg” and “Teuringer Riedweg,” each listed as 10.1 kilometres and about 4.5 hours. These figures help you compare the routes by distance and time required.
The “Tour tip through the Oberteuringen countryside” is 14 kilometres long. The route goes from Oberteuringen via Unterteuringen, Hepbach, Stadel, Neuhaus, Hefigkofen, Dürnast, Reute bei Taldorf and Bibruck, before returning to Oberteuringen. Before setting out, it is worth checking the signposting and trail conditions, as routes and conditions may change.
The Way of St. James and activities in town
The Way of St. James enters Oberteuringen municipal territory near Blankenried and continues via Rammetshofen to Unterteuringen. Pilgrims can have their pilgrim passports stamped along the way and sign a pilgrim book. This option adds a practical pilgrimage detail to the route information; check the current signposting before setting out.
The Rotachpark also offers a connection with the river: there is access to the Rotach and an island where children can play and run around in nature. There is also a skate park on Jahnweg, near the sports hall. As access rules and operating conditions may change, check local information before visiting or using the facilities.
Church art and culture
The ceiling painting in the nave of the parish church of Saint Martin depicts the Nativity of Christ. It was created by Ravensburg artist Gebhard Fugel (1863–1939). The church’s stained-glass windows were designed by Wilhelm Geyer (1900–1968), an art professor from Ulm. The ceiling painting and windows thus bring different artistic touches to the same church.
The Saint George Chapel in the district of Neuhaus was built in 1707 with Baroque furnishings. It houses a Late Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary from a Crucifixion group dating to around 1480. The statue is therefore considerably older than the chapel. The building and the artwork represent two different periods.
The “Mühle” cultural centre is a meeting place for people interested in art, culture, concerts and comedy. Individual events may change, so check dates before your visit. Guided apple tours offer another way to experience Oberteuringen. Dates and booking arrangements may vary, so it is advisable to enquire in advance for your travel dates.
