Heiningen: Voralb Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Heiningen
For a stay in Heiningen, you can plan outdoor activities and local history together. The local routes vary in activity and length: from four Nordic walking routes to the 1.6-kilometre singletrack trail and the 27-kilometre Voralb Route. The Historical Walking Tour of the Town and the frescoes in St Michael’s Church offer further insights into local history. You can plan your day according to whether you prefer to go Nordic walking, ride a trail, take a longer route or discover historical themes.
Hiking and Walking in Heiningen
The 27-kilometre Voralb Route passes through Heiningen. The Voralb Nordic Walking Park has four routes ranging from 3.5 to 14 kilometres, for beginners and more advanced athletes alike. They all start at the car park by the Voralbhalle. The different route lengths provide a concrete basis for comparison when planning: the Nordic walking routes are up to 14 kilometres long, while the Voralb Route covers 27 kilometres. Check the local signposts and current conditions before setting off. Rohrweg and Heubachwegrunde are other hiking trails in the municipality of Heiningen. Since their availability may change, it is also advisable to check locally before setting off on these trails.
Singletrack Trail and Leisure Activities
The VORALB HERO is a 1.6-kilometre singletrack trail through Heiningen’s municipal forest. Its length and trail type distinguish it from the Nordic walking routes and the Voralb Route. Since 2024, the trail has been operated by the Bone Fackers e.V. club from Bad Boll, which is responsible for its care, maintenance and safety. If you plan to ride the VORALB HERO, check the latest information and trail conditions beforehand. In summer 2014, an 18-hole pit-pat course was added to Heiningen’s leisure facilities. If you would like to include the course in your plans, check its current availability beforehand.
Discover Local History on Foot
For the Historical Walking Tour of Heiningen, local residents selected 21 stops and wrote the accompanying texts; most of those involved volunteered their time. Plaques on building walls provide information about local history, while QR codes link to further information from the municipality. This brings together information at the sites and the option to explore further digitally. The frescoes in St Michael’s Church add specific imagery to this historical perspective: they depict St Christopher, a rare Crucifixion with Christ being nailed to the cross, dated 1398, and a “Volto Santo”. The latter is a depiction of the Crucifixion showing Christ clothed.
Göppingen: Regional Hiking and Cycling Routes
In Göppingen district, the Löwenpfade are circular hiking trails ranging from 3 to 24 kilometres in length. They can be walked in either direction and are signposted and marked in both directions. At the start of each Löwenpfad, an information board shows the route, elevation profile and sights along the way. The four Löwentrails offer a different focus: these mountain biking circuits are 16 to 30 kilometres long and are particularly suitable for beginners and e-mountain bikers. This makes it possible to compare route length and type of activity when choosing a regional tour: hiking on the Löwenpfade or mountain biking on the Löwentrails.
