Rechberghausen: Milling Technology, Architecture and Parks
Accommodation in Rechberghausen
Rechberghausen offers several different points of interest for a stay: the focus at the Untere Mühle Technical Museum is on milling technology, the architecture trail leads to selected buildings, and two landscape parks each have their own distinctive features. There are also activities for children, a dining establishment and a hike that also includes Oberwälden. To plan your visit, you can first consider whether technology, architectural history, green spaces or a programme that varies by year should be the main focus.
Milling Technology, Architecture and Local History
The Untere Mühle Technical Museum has been located in the Untere Mühle building complex since 2014. During guided tours, visitors can see the fully restored, operational milling technology. The mill’s mechanisms themselves are the main focus here. Check the current tour arrangements before your visit.
For children, there is the “From Grain to Flour” tour, which includes hands-on work in the milling workshop. If you would like to plan this tour, ask about the current arrangements in advance.
The architecture trail leads to 38 selected architectural highlights in Rechberghausen. A free route brochure is available at the town hall. It offers a different focus from the museum: instead of milling technology, it highlights buildings in the town.
Changes to the townscape are also part of local history: the old little Church of the Assumption of Mary was demolished in 1912 to make way for the new Catholic church on the edge of the historic town.
A hike leads from St. Michael’s Cemetery Chapel in Rechberghausen to the Evangelical St. Nicholas Church in Oberwälden, then past Mittelmühle and Zachersmühle to the Untere Mühle in Rechberghausen. It also takes in a second town, whereas the architecture trail’s 38 selected sites are all in Rechberghausen.
Landscape and Trails
Sommertraumsee lake is at the heart of the GrĂĽne Mitte Landscape Park. Erlenwiesen Landscape Park was created and opened in 2023. These two places offer different points of reference for planning: the lake at GrĂĽne Mitte, and the year Erlenwiesen was created and opened.
There is a wildlife trail for children along the Schinderbach stream. As its condition may change, check before your visit.
Events and Dining
The FerienKultur programme of the municipality of Rechberghausen includes the Summer Night Festival, a garden market and a children’s theatre week. Dates vary from year to year; if you would like to attend one of these events, check the latest dates before planning your visit.
The MĂĽhlenscheuer houses a dining establishment with seating in the mill garden. As its operation and availability may change, check in advance whether it will be open on your travel dates.
Hiking in the Wider Destination of Göppingen
In the wider destination of Göppingen, the Löwenpfade offer another type of hike: these circular trails in the district of Göppingen are between 3 and 24 kilometres long, can be walked in either direction and are signposted and marked in both directions. This distinguishes the hike via Oberwälden from the regional selection of marked circular trails.
