Discover Ebringen: Vineyards, Chapels and Nature
Accommodation in Ebringen
Ebringen offers several distinct themes for a stay: an old pilgrimage trail, a signposted loop through the vineyards, protected natural areas and the castle, which now serves as the town hall. The two routes differ in length and focus. Those interested in chapels and pilgrimage history will find them along the Stations of the Cross trail; the vineyard loop focuses on grape varieties and an example of sustainable construction.
The Stations of the Cross Trail and Vineyard Loop
The Stations of the Cross trail from Ebringen to Berghausen Chapel has been documented since the early 17th century and is an old pilgrimage path. It includes eight chapels and is about 2.3 kilometres long. From the parish church, the route passes through Rottenmünsterhof and continues through the vineyards to the chapel. The originals of the former 1751 Stations of the Cross can be seen in the parish church.
The signposted vineyard loop starts at Winzerhof Ebringen and ends back there after about three kilometres. Along the way, it passes the “ReSidence” pavilion of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, which serves as an example of sustainable construction. Information boards introduce the grape varieties grown here.
When comparing the routes, the Stations of the Cross trail, at about 2.3 kilometres, is shorter than the vineyard loop, which is around three kilometres long. Their endpoints also differ: the Stations of the Cross trail runs from the parish church to Berghausen Chapel, while the vineyard loop returns to Winzerhof. This means they differ not only in approximate length but also in focus: pilgrimage history and chapels on one route, grape varieties and sustainable construction on the other.
Nature, Trail Guidance and the Castle
The slopes around Berghausen Chapel have been protected across an area of about 150 hectares since 1996. In the Jennetal nature reserve, the Sumsergarten is the core zone; it is known for its wealth of orchids.
There is a specific restriction on where you may walk in the Berghauser Matten protected area: away from designated paths, you may move only in the immediate vicinity of Berghausen Chapel. Check the local guidance before your visit.
Ebringen Castle was built between 1711 and 1713 on the site of the former provost’s building. Today it is used as the town hall.
