Dachtel combines insights into local history with two differently themed playgrounds and hiking tours, with materials provided by the Dachtel branch of the Black Forest Association. The local history museum and the Protestant parish church each tell a different part of the town’s history; the playgrounds each have their own focus.

Local History Museum and Church

The Dachtel Local History Museum is housed in a school and town hall built in 1827. Its collection includes agricultural equipment, tools used by various tradespeople, antique weapons, and musical instruments. A historic farmhouse interior and former school materials offer further insights into everyday life. The museum also includes a reconstructed mayor’s office. There is also an old classroom, the former mayor’s office, a laundry room, and historic firefighting equipment. Objects from agriculture and crafts thus sit alongside insights into home life, schooling, and local government history.

Visits to the local history museum are possible by appointment; if you are interested, arrange a time in advance. Two special exhibitions are traditionally held each year. The museum café is open during these exhibitions. If you would like to combine your visit with an exhibition, be sure to factor this timing into your plans.

The Protestant parish church in Dachtel dates from 1601. Heinrich Schickhardt built the church between 1599 and 1601; it was rededicated on October 9, 1768. These dates place the church’s construction in context: the building phase at the turn of the 17th century was followed by its rededication in the 18th century. The church thus adds a distinct aspect of local history to the insights offered by the local history museum.

Playgrounds and Hiking Themes

The nature and sensory playground in Dachtel features a barefoot path and is located above Talweg. The water playground is between Vogelsangstraße and Dachteler Bergstraße. Its water features include a water spiral and sluice gates. The features mentioned offer a way to distinguish between the two playgrounds: the barefoot path at one, and the water features with their spiral and sluice gates at the other. To get your bearings, it is advisable to check the locations on a town map before your visit.

The Dachtel branch of the Black Forest Association provides hiking tours with maps and descriptions to download or print. This lets you use the tour materials in a format that suits your preparations. A historic hiking connection is the anniversary circular route marking Dachtel’s 750th anniversary: it led through the designated nature reserves of Storrenberg, Höhnle, Heckental, and Eckweg. The route is associated with this anniversary; its described path through the four protected areas is part of local history.

A Glimpse of Local Events

Onion cake was baked at the Backhaus-Hocketse event in Dachtel. The cake could be ordered in advance, and small pieces were available to sample before it was served. This combination of baking, advance orders, and tastings describes what the event offered.
