Discover Oggelshausen
Accommodation in Oggelshausen
Oggelshausen lies on the southeastern edge of the flat Federsee moorland. You can plan your stay around a range of interests: outdoor art, walking trails through the moorland, and an annual festival. You can tailor your trip to whether you are most interested in the sculpture field, the themed stops along the moor nature trail, or a particular time of year.
Sculpture Field and Route to the Site
The sculpture field near Oggelshausen comprises 15 distinctive stone sculptures. They were created by prominent sculptors from five countries and three continents. The field thus brings an international artistic perspective to the landscape. It is very clearly signposted within the village. Follow the signposted route to the sculpture field for about 2 km to reach a hiking car park at the edge of the forest; from there, continue on foot to the sculptures. Two waypoints are therefore important for planning: the signs in Oggelshausen and the car park where the walk to the stone sculptures begins.
Walking at Federsee
Oggelshausen lies directly on the Federsee circular trail. Starting in Bad Buchau, the route passes through Oggelshausen, Tiefenbach, Seekirch, Alleshausen, Brackenhofen, and Moosburg in succession. It leads around the Federsee nature reserve and roughly follows the lake’s shoreline before it was artificially lowered just over 200 years ago. The circular trail thus connects several villages and offers a view of the shoreline’s historical development.
The Archaeological Moor Nature Trail offers a different focus: from Oggelshausen, you can access the 9.5 km route directly. It leads into the Southern Federsee Bog Nature Reserve. Eleven stops explore prehistoric moor settlements as well as natural and regional history. The trails therefore focus on different themes: the Federsee circular trail, with its villages and shoreline, or the moor nature trail, with its archaeological and natural-history focus.
Cycling Connections and Public Transport
There are also two long-distance routes of note for cyclists. Oggelshausen is connected to the Danube Cycle Route and the Lake Constance Cycle Route, both of which are significant long-distance routes. For onward travel or arrival by public transport, State Road L 280 provides a direct connection to Bad Buchau and Biberach. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable for your travel date.
St. Lawrence Festival in August
The St. Lawrence Festival, held in honor of Saint Lawrence and Saint Agatha, takes place every year on the first weekend in August. Its recurring date gives you a specific point of reference when choosing your travel dates if the festival is relevant to your plans.
