Wain – Forests, Protestant History and Golf
Accommodation in Wain
Wain lies in the upper Weihung Valley and is nestled in the Holzstöcke, one of the largest continuous forest areas in southeastern Baden-Württemberg. The Weihung rises in Wain; it flows about 30 kilometers to the Danube near Ulm. The forest, valley and course of the river give the area a varied landscape. There is also Protestant history, as well as opportunities for golf and training. If you are choosing a destination based on several interests, you can explore each of these highlights independently in Wain.
Church and Local History
A centrally located historic landmark is the castle, which bears witness to the change of ownership following the sale of Wain in 1771. St. Michael’s Church was rebuilt in 1688 after the older church had been demolished. It combines Protestant Baroque architecture with Protestant baptismal theology. Inside the church, the Exulantentafel commemorates the departure of Protestant families from Arriach in Carinthia in the 17th century. The congregation in Wain is considered one of the oldest Protestant congregations in Upper Swabia.
Another local landmark is the Bethlehem district, first mentioned in 1529. Two signs mark the district; they were unveiled on December 8, 2013. Thus, St. Michael’s Church and the plaque point to Protestant history, while the castle and Bethlehem offer further historical landmarks. For a trip focused on cultural history, there are several themes to choose from: the history of the congregation, the town’s religious heritage and its development.
Golf and Training
The Reischenhof golf course in Wain has 27 holes, divided into three nine-hole courses. The courses can be combined for 18-hole rounds; a full 27-hole day is also possible. This lets you plan how much golf you want to play. The course is set in the Upper Swabian moraine landscape; hilly terrain and varying slopes shape its character.
The Propuls fitness studio offers a different choice of activity. Its offerings include circuit training, machine-based training, free-weight training, mobility training and a variety of classes. There is also a sauna area and the Stüble bistro. The Stüble has an outdoor area for summer; this seasonal note applies to the outdoor area. Unlike the golf course, the focus here is on different types of training, as well as the sauna and bistro. If you plan to stay active during your trip, you can choose between these different options.
