Vins-Sur-Caramy offers several distinct cultural and historical points of interest: the Vieux pont, the Château de Vins, and customs associated with winegrowing. The buildings represent different periods, while the festivals take place at specific times of the year. You can plan your visit according to whether you are especially interested in historic architecture, village traditions, or seasonal cultural events.

Rocky promontory, river, and village walk

Vins-Sur-Caramy and its Château sit on a rocky promontory above the Caramy valley. From the banks of the Caramy, you can enjoy views of the Vieux pont and the Château amid the Provençal landscape and cypress trees. A walk through the village leads from the church square to the square near the Château. This gives you two different points of reference: the village walk from the church square towards the Château, and views of the bridge and Château from the riverbanks.

The Vieux pont and its history

The Vieux pont is a humped bridge with three vaulted arches. It was built in the 1660s to replace an earlier medieval wooden bridge. The medieval wooden bridge was thus followed by the arched bridge of the 17th century. Since February 2, 1931, the Vieux pont has been listed as a French historic monument. The bridge therefore provides a clear point of reference for understanding the history of the village: its form and listed status are part of its history, while its predecessor dates from a much earlier period.

The Château de Vins: fortress and Renaissance

The known origins of the Château de Vins date back to the first half of the 16th century. Its architecture combines features of a medieval fortress with residential architecture typical of the Renaissance. This combination gives the building a distinctive architectural character: fortress features and Renaissance residential architecture stand side by side here. The Château also hosts various cultural activities, including concerts, exhibitions, and artist residencies, as well as events in the fields of visual arts, music, and dance. Alongside its architectural history, the Château’s cultural profile therefore encompasses several art forms and types of event.

Festivals and customs throughout the year

The Saint Vincent tradition is celebrated in Vins-Sur-Caramy every year on January 22 in honor of the patron saint of winegrowers. Since 1986, the celebration has included a procession through the village streets, decorated in the Provençal colors of red and yellow. Participants wear Provençal costumes. During the celebration or at the end of the grape harvest, a large loaf of bread is blessed in the church and shared among the winegrowers. The Saint-Christophe fair in July is another local event; drivers and their vehicles are blessed afterward.

Planning around cultural events

If you plan your travel dates around cultural events, the January Saint Vincent celebration and the summer events take place at distinctly different times. The Château de Vins offers candlelit tours in July and August; check the specific dates before your visit. The Saint-Christophe fair in July is another date to keep in mind.

On July 20, 2026, the municipality announced a free, geolocated audio-guide tour to explore the local heritage, accessible via QR codes. Before making plans, check whether the offer is still available. This will help you distinguish between customs held on fixed dates, seasonal tours, and an announced tour when planning your trip.
