When looking for a hotel in Ramatuelle, it’s worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your trip: village history, the beach, nature, wine or culture. There are different ways to explore each of these topics locally—from the medieval village to seasonal nature activities and wine visits.

Village history on the slopes of the Paillas hills

The picturesque medieval village of Ramatuelle rises on the slopes of the Paillas hills. Its parish church was rebuilt around 1582 on the village’s former fortification wall. The village’s character, hillside setting and church building offer several points of reference for understanding the history of the place. The date refers to the church’s reconstruction, not to the age of the village as a whole. If you’re interested in local history, this gives you a specific connection between the village and its former fortifications.

Pampelonne: beach and marine nature

Pampelonne Beach is 4.5 kilometres long and has fine sand. It is designated an “espace naturel remarquable” (remarkable natural area); visitors can swim there. Beach use and its recognised importance as a natural area thus go hand in hand—two distinct aspects that can shape your travel plans.

Another way to explore the coast is the underwater educational trail at Ramatuelle. It is located near a rocky headland at the southern end of Pampelonne Beach. Signs placed underwater explain the ecosystems of the Mediterranean coast and its marine biodiversity. While the beach itself is the focus when swimming, the trail offers nature-related information. It operates seasonally, so check whether it will be open during your visit.

Nature activities and connections

A guided nature walk with a nature guide is offered seasonally along the coastal path. It differs from the underwater educational trail in format: here, a nature guide leads a walk on land, while the signs on the trail explain marine ecosystems. The walk is also seasonal, so it’s advisable to check availability for your dates. Ramatuelle has also joined the charter of the Parc national de Port-Cros.

A free shuttle connects the village of Ramatuelle with the Bay of Pampelonne and l’Escalet Beach. This connection may be useful to consider if you’re planning to include both the village and the coast in your trip. The shuttle may operate seasonally, so check whether it runs on your travel dates before setting off.

Market, culture and wine

The Marché au village takes place year-round on Thursdays and Sundays at Place de l'Ormeau. If the market is of interest, you can plan your visit around these days of the week; check the date in advance, as recurring schedules can change. The Festival de Ramatuelle also invites artists every year. If you’re travelling for a particular event, the specific festival dates are important, so it’s worth checking the dates for your travel period.

At Château des Marres, the tour includes the vineyards, the cellar and the chai (wine storehouse). It ends with a tasting of four wines from the estate’s own vineyard. Fondugues-Pradugues offers wine tastings in the chai, as well as vineyard picnics by prior reservation. This gives you a choice of different visit formats: a tour followed by a tasting, a wine tasting in the chai, or a reserved picnic. At Château des Marres, reservation and seasonal conditions may change; at Fondugues-Pradugues, offers and booking conditions may change. Check the terms for each before making plans.
