Neffes: Heritage, Cycling and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Neffes
Neffes brings together local heritage sites, cycling and hiking routes, and a range of regional products. If you’re looking for hotels in Neffes, you can plan your trip around one of these interests: village history, mountain biking, hiking or local specialties. The places and routes below vary in character and offer specific points to help you plan.
Heritage in Neffes
The former Lavoir de Neffes was restored by the municipality in 2006. It is at the entrance to the village, on the road to Pelleautier; its current condition is uncertain. The Église de la Nativité is also in Neffes. The village’s heritage also includes the Chapelle Saint-Romain de la Côte de Neffes.
The Chapelle Saint-Jacques has been authentically preserved. Hikers passing nearby can rest and relax by a well in a deeply shaded spot. The Lac de Pelleautier–Tallard section also passes through Neffes: it runs between the town hall and the church, then continues to the D 46. Before setting out, check whether the section is open.
Mountain biking: a loop or a route into the village
The Le Rousine mountain biking loop (VTT n°12 Bleu) passes through Neffes. It is rated easy and is 16.2 kilometres long. Its loop format, length and difficulty rating offer specific points to help you choose a ride; trail conditions may change, so check them before setting off.
The Ya marne mountain biking route (VTT n°9 rouge) reaches Neffes first via a descent on a track and then along a narrow path. Unlike the loop, this route describes the specific section of its approach to the village. When weighing up the two rides, you can compare Le Rousine’s length and difficulty rating with the described route into Neffes on Ya marne.
Hiking and views
The Tour de Neffes aux Bonnets is a circular hike around the village along small roads and paths, accessible to everyone. On open stretches, when visibility allows, there are views of Céüse, the Montagne de Charance and the Écrins. Between Céüse and the Durance, the tour connects with the GR®93 and GRP®. The route description therefore includes both the loop around Neffes and connections to two other routes. Route conditions may change; check current trail conditions before hiking.
Local specialties
Le Pressoir Neffois offers wildthorn juice, fresh birch sap from early March to late May, and pasteurized birch sap year-round. Its other products include apple juice, oil infusions, soaps, liqueurs, wildthorn aperitif, Génépi liqueur and Génépi sprigs, blueberry wine, walnuts, and local tourtons and ravioles. Visits are by appointment; product availability may vary seasonally. Fresh birch sap is therefore available for a limited period, while pasteurized birch sap is offered year-round.
