Pelvoux: Ski Slopes, Hikes and Écrins
Accommodation in Pelvoux
Pelvoux offers a range of reasons to plan a trip: a ski resort, summer hikes, alpine destinations and historic sites. If you’re looking for a hotel, focusing on what matters most can make it easier to choose. First, consider whether your trip will mainly revolve around ski slopes, hikes or cultural landmarks.
Ski Resort, Village Trail and Outdoor Activities
The Pelvoux-Vallouise ski resort has 18 ski runs with a total length of 25 kilometres. These figures may change if the facilities are modified in the future, so check the latest information when planning your trip. For families, the Randoland trail offers a way to explore the village by solving puzzles. The puzzles are aimed at children aged 3 to 12. Check before your trip whether the activity is available.
In summer, numerous hikes start in the different hamlets of Pelvoux. The specific hamlet you set out from matters when planning your hike; route conditions may change. Mountain biking and using a via ferrata are also possible in Pelvoux. If you’re planning these activities, check the latest route and operator information, as details may change.
Mountain Refuges and Alpine Orientation
The Refuge du Pelvoux sits at an altitude of 2,704 metres on a rocky outcrop. It is about a 3.5-hour walk from Ailefroide and is also a starting point for mountaineering routes. The altitude and approximate walking time answer different planning questions: the first describes the refuge’s location, while the second gives the approximate duration of the walk from Ailefroide. Conditions on the mountaineering routes vary by season. Take the stated time and the relevant seasonal conditions into account when planning.
Pré de Madame Carle is the entrance to Écrins National Park and a starting point for summer hikes on foot as well as spring ski trips. Seasonal access conditions may change; check them before planning. The Chalet-Refuge du Pré de Madame Carle is located above the hamlet of Ailefroide, at the foot of Mont Pelvoux and the Écrins. The two similarly named refuges can be distinguished by their different features: for the Refuge du Pelvoux, altitude, walking time and mountaineering routes are useful points of reference; the Chalet-Refuge is above Ailefroide at the foot of the mountains.
Chapels and Sundials
Le Poët is home to the 17th-century Chapelle Saint-Pancrace. The Chapelle Sainte-Barbe in Les Claux has a restored sundial dating from 1792. The hamlet of Saint-Antoine has a church of the same name and a sundial dating from 1810. Each of the three places thus has its own historical feature: the century of a chapel, a restored sundial with a date, and a hamlet with a church and sundial. If you’re interested in local history, you can take these different features into account when planning.
Shuttle and Hotel Search
A shuttle operated by 05 Voyageurs connects L’Argentière, Puy-Saint-Vincent, Ailefroide and Pré de Madame Carle, in that order. Routes and operating arrangements may change; if you’re planning to use the shuttle, check the current service before your trip. Tailor your search to your travel plans and check each hotel’s information for the features that matter to you personally.
