Laye: Ski Resort and Hotels
Accommodation in Laye
Laye combines a ski resort with winter walks, leisure activities, and a historic memorial site. This means different ways of spending a stay can go hand in hand: slopes and lifts define winter sports, while the Sentier de la Cuque brings together woodland and information panels. Jungle Laye adds courses and play activities to the mix. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether to focus on the ski resort, winter trails, leisure activities, or history.
Skiing and winter walks
The Laye ski resort has approximately 10 kilometres of slopes served by five drag lifts. The slope length is an approximate figure; the number of slopes and lifts may be adjusted by the operator. If these figures are important for your planning, check the operator’s latest information. In addition, the snow-covered areas around the resort are suitable for snowshoeing and mountain walks.
If you are mainly interested in the range of slopes, the approximate number of kilometres of slopes and the five drag lifts can give you an idea of the size of the ski resort. Snowshoeing and mountain walks offer a different focus. This lets you consider the various winter activities according to the kind of exercise you are looking for during your stay, without treating them as a single offering of ski slopes.
Forest trails and route details
The Sentier de la Cuque is a family trail through the Bois-Vert state forest. Around twelve information panels highlight features and the beauty of the Champsaur forest. The trail therefore combines a walk through the forest with insights into its distinctive features and landscape. If you are interested in forests and local nature, the trail and its panels together form the route’s distinctive focus.
A section of the first stage of the Grand tour des Ecrins follows a different route: from the forest road at Lauzon, a narrow single track heads towards the Laye ski resort. The route skirts the resort. The directional information therefore does not mean that the trail passes through the resort; the route described goes around it.
Leisure activities at Jungle Laye
Jungle Laye has 11 courses and 240 activity stations and is accessible from the age of three. It also features a 1,000-metre zip line called “Saut de Tarzan de l'Extrême”. Paintball, airsoft, and laser tag round out the leisure activities.
The figures give an idea of the scale of the courses; the zip-line length refers to one specific attraction. Paintball, airsoft, and laser tag are distinct types of activity. So if you are looking for particular things to do during your stay, you can assess Jungle Laye by the activities it offers rather than broadly equating its leisure activities with winter activities.
Monument and history of the Resistance
The Monument de la Résistance du Champsaur-Valgaudemar stands on a grassy rise beside the Route Napoléon. It commemorates 17 July 1944, when four men died fighting for freedom. The history of this event also includes an ambush that had been prepared in advance: the Resistance group prepared it near the remains of Laye castle’s tower. The monument and the account of the ambush give the historical subject both a named place of remembrance and a specific connection to what happened at the time.
Cheese and regional products
The Laiterie du Col Bayard has a restaurant serving a wide range of cheese menus, a shop selling regional products, and an exhibition about cheese-making. The restaurant, shop, and exhibition each offer a different focus on cheese, combining dining with products and an insight into how they are made. This theme complements the trails, leisure activities, and history with a culinary and informative focus.
