Port Camargue: Marina, water sports and architecture
Accommodation in Port Camargue
Port Camargue focuses on its marina and water sports. The port has 5,000 berths and quays stretching for miles. This gives the town a clear maritime focus for planning your hotel stay and trip. Architectural history, marine life and regional dishes add to this appeal and cater to a range of interests.
Marina and activities on the water
Water sports in Port Camargue include sailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, rowing and kayaking. Latitude 43 is a sailing school based in Port Camargue. The range of water sports therefore extends from sailing to other activities on the water.
The La Marinette harbor shuttle offers a narrated, 40-minute tour of the large marina and its marinas. In terms of duration, this trip differs from another format: Latitude 43 offers half-day and evening discovery trips; availability may vary. La Marinette departs from Parvis Jean Balladur by the Capitainerie and from Quai Ulysse by Plage Sud. These boarding points may change operationally, so check the latest information before your trip.
Plage Sud is on the marina side of Port Camargue. The Seaquarium devotes 2,400 m² to marine life. The maritime connection thus extends from the port and beach to learning about marine life.
Harbor architecture and building history
The harbor’s architecture also offers some specific points of interest. The Les Camarguaises Sud marina was built by Joseph Massota in 1972; the Port Camargue Capitainerie was built by Jean Balladur in 1973. Both buildings were selected for the patrimoine du XXe siècle label. Their construction dates are close, but the architects and buildings are clearly matched: Massota to the marina, Balladur to the Capitainerie. For a culture-focused perspective on the harbor, these two buildings and their respective periods of construction can be compared.
Practical information for getting around
Port Camargue has three shopping centers. They offer groceries and other useful services, including a laundromat, prepared meals and souvenir shops. Since individual shops and services may change, check in advance whether the right option is available if you have a specific need. Some parking spaces at the marina are open to the public. Since parking options may change, it is a good idea to check the latest information before setting out.
Regional dishes
Regional cuisine includes dishes made with different ingredients: Rouille Ă la Graulenne consists of squid, potatoes and aioli. Gardianne de taureau is a bull-meat dish served with Camargue rice. The comparison highlights two different emphases: a combination of squid and aioli on the one hand, and a meat dish with Camargue rice on the other. This lets you explore the regional cuisine through its ingredients.
