Châteaurenard offers different ways to explore history, agriculture and the landscape: the Forteresse des Comtes de Provence stands on Griffon Hill, while the market, guided tours and walks each focus on their own themes. When planning your trip, the dates of seasonal activities and your interests can help you choose a focus—such as architectural history, local produce or outdoor activities.

Fortress, churches and history in the town

The Forteresse des Comtes de Provence on Colline du Griffon dates from the 12th and 15th centuries. Guided tours cover Benoît XIII, the architecture, everyday life and the site's strategic role. The tour program may vary by season, so check the dates before your trip.

The Church of Saint-Denys also tells the story of different eras: its façade dates from the 19th century, the nave is Romanesque and the choir is Gothic. The first republican elections were held in the church. The Musée des Outils Agraires et des Traditions presents the development of agriculture in the region. The Crèche du Mas Grichaud depicts Châteaurenard in the 19th century and a Provençal mas.

To get to know the old town better, you can choose the “Histoire d'une Cité Maraîchère” tour. It takes you through the historic center and explains how the waters of the Durance and the fertile alluvial soils made vegetable growing possible in the region. Check dates and reservation information in advance. The “Entretien avec l'histoire” walk takes you through the streets of the historic center to discover its history, heritage and traditions. Before setting out on this walk, also check access and route conditions.

Market and production

Châteaurenard's producers' market is held on Saturdays from 7:45 a.m. to 12 p.m., from April to October. It offers a wide selection of fresh produce from local farmers. If the market is part of your itinerary, check the dates for your visit in advance; the stated period is seasonal.

Distillerie Frigolet Liqueur offers tours, sales and tastings; reservations are required for visits. During the visit, you can follow the processes of drying, maceration, distillation in copper stills and aging in oak barrels. Here, the focus is on the production process—a different emphasis from the market and its fresh produce.

Walks and outdoor activities

Vallon de la Roquette offers a walk through Mediterranean vegetation with views of Mont Ventoux. Trail conditions may vary by season; take this into account when planning. The valley also has a mountain bike course for adults and a balance-bike course for children aged 3 to 6. The age recommendation and different courses can help you decide whether the activity suits your needs.

The Parcours de santé de Pic Chabaud is a fitness trail in the heart of the castle hill, near the town center. Check its condition before visiting. The Alpilles massif, protected by a nature park, lies north of Châteaurenard.

An event date with its own program

The Trophée des Maraîchers includes a Camargue-style bull-racing final. At the event, the Maîtres-Cuisiniers de France also offer tastings in front of a five-meter-high pyramid of vegetables. If the Trophée is a key part of your trip, check the dates and specific program in advance.
