Beuil lies at the foot of Mont Mounier. The landscape, village history and winter activities give a stay here a variety of highlights: you can explore trails through meadows and hamlets, discover historic sites in the village or look into cross-country skiing options.

Landscape and historic trails

The Circuit des Bergians passes through meadows and hamlets, by traditionally built barns and pastureland that is still in use. The use of the pastures can vary depending on the season. Those interested in the cultural landscape will find nature and features shaped by agriculture along the same trail.

The signposted Sentier historique leads to the orientation table on the Pré de Foire hill and includes twelve historical information panels. The booklet “Sentier de l’Histoire” describes a circuit around the village of Beuil and presents historical events from the commune. The trail and booklet are two separate ways to explore the area’s history.

Building history and religious traditions

The Eglise Notre Dame du Rosaire in the village was built in 1687 and restored in 1999. The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs was built in 1630 on the site of an earlier chapel. Its façade is entirely decorated with pseudo-Baroque trompe-l’œil painting, created by Guy Ceppa in 1984. Trompe-l’œil is a painting technique that creates the illusion of three-dimensional space; at the chapel, this design is a distinctive architectural detail.

The Chapelle Saint Jean-Baptiste, also known as Saint Jean du désert, is associated with a pilgrimage at the end of June. In winter, services are held there and can be reached via a snowshoe trail. If you plan to attend a pilgrimage or service, check local dates in advance.

Cross-country skiing and other activities

The Beuil-Les Launes Nordic area offers five cross-country ski trails covering a total of 25 kilometres, for all ability levels. Winter operations depend on snow and weather conditions. The Cumba Clava cross-country skiing loop passes through a larch forest to a secluded, very sunny clearing. While the Nordic area is defined by the number of trails, their total length and difficulty levels, the forest and destination shape the scenery along the Cumba Clava loop.

Another activity is the natural climbing area in the Quartier du Charrier, with routes graded from 3 to 6. Beuil-les-Launes is also a stage on the circular route through the red gorges of Cians and Daluis.

Local produce

Rucher aux Marmottes produces savory honey within the commune and sells its products directly at the farm. Alongside trails, architectural history and activities, a regional product is another distinctive feature of a stay in Beuil. If you plan to shop there, check the latest sales information in advance.
