Discover Roubion
Accommodation in Roubion
Roubion offers a historic village setting, cultural sites and a range of sporting activities. Steep lanes and painted doors sit alongside alpine ski runs, downhill trails and challenging canyoning routes. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you would rather explore the architecture and local history or focus on a particular sport.
Historic village setting and painted doors
Steep lanes, vaulted passageways and medieval houses define Roubion. Together, these features give the village its spatial layout and historical character. Those interested in architecture will find not only individual named buildings, but also lanes and passageways that form part of the village’s character.
The Circuit des Portes Peintes uses old painted doors to depict former occupations and everyday scenes from farming and shepherding. The images thus connect working life with scenes from daily life in the past. Looking at them means considering both the painted doors and the activities shown on them.
The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien dates back to the 16th century and is listed as a historic monument. The Tournerie archaeological site was added to the list of sites listed as historic monuments in 2020. The two sites represent different aspects of local history: for the chapel, its date and monument status are significant; for Tournerie, its archaeological classification and inclusion on the list are key.
Village views and Mercantour
The Jardin du Pigeonnier offers views of the Tinée Valley. A discovery trail in Mercantour National Park also passes through Roubion. These offer different perspectives: a view over the valley and the chance to explore the village along the trail.
Cuisine and local dishes
A Mercantour National Park article dated August 25, 2023, mentions the Auberge du Moulin in Roubion and describes its homemade Niçoise and Mediterranean specialties. These include pissaladière, farcis, zucchini flower fritters and ravioli.
Winter sports and cycling
The Roubion-les-Buisses ski area offers more than 33 kilometers of downhill ski runs. It also has snowshoe trails. The two activities differ in nature, so when planning you can consider whether alpine skiing or a snowshoe trail better suits your interests.
The Roubion-les-Buisses Bike Park has nine downhill trails. They range from a green trail for beginners to a black trail that calls for more effort. This range of difficulty helps you assess the park’s trails, rather than treating all nine routes as alike.
Canyoning and Via Ferrata
The Canyon du Moulin is a highly challenging canyoning route for experienced participants. It features cascades, technical abseiling sections and a 60-meter-high waterfall that runs through a natural arch. The route’s difficulty and its suitability for experienced participants are central to assessing it.
The Via Ferrata de Roubion is a few minutes from the village center and runs across a rock face 40 to 50 meters high. The secured course is 300 meters long. This activity can be described by its location and dimensions, whereas the Canyon du Moulin is defined by its canyoning route, technical features and explicitly high level of difficulty.
