Blanzac-Porcheresse among churches, markets and the NĂ© Valley
Accommodation in Blanzac-Porcheresse
Blanzac-Porcheresse combines architectural history with ways to explore the town on foot or by bike. There is also a regular market and film screenings according to the schedule. If you are planning a stay, you can focus on historic churches, the landscape or the current programme in Blanzac-Porcheresse.
Churches and architectural history
The Église Saint-Cybard de Porcheresse is classified as a historic monument; the classification was made by decree on 30 December 1913. Its main construction phase dates from the 12th century. The church is a well-preserved rural example of a single-nave building. “Single-nave” describes a church with one main nave. The bell tower rises above the choir bay. The date of the main construction phase and the tower’s precise position offer two concrete points of reference for understanding the building’s form.
The Collégiale Saint-Arthémy in Blanzac-Porcheresse was also founded in the 12th century. Its surviving Romanesque parts include the crossing, the bell tower and the choir. While the single-nave layout and the tower’s position stand out at Saint-Cybard, at Saint-Arthémy it is these three surviving architectural elements. This offers a chance to learn about two distinct architectural descriptions, both associated with the 12th century.
Explore Blanzac on foot and by bike
The “Circuit de curiosités” walking tour invites you to visit Blanzac and follow a map. It is designed for exploring the town on foot and provides guidance along the way. This sets it apart from the cycling options, which focus on the landscape, the river and other themes along each route.
The “Boucle vélo route Blanzac – Circuit découverte 7B” cycling route offers views of the rolling landscape of southern Charente. Blanzac-Porcheresse lies in the fertile valley of the Né. On the return to Blanzac, the route follows the Né and passes the remains of watermills. The route description thus combines views of the landscape with a specific stretch along the river and the mill remains.
“In Vigny Veritas” by Tèrra Aventura offers a different kind of cycling: a free, family-friendly treasure hunt by bike in Coteaux-du-Blanzacais. The activity covers 9.5 kilometres; solve the riddles using a smartphone or GPS. Unlike the Boucle vélo route, the focus here is on the riddles. Check the current activity information before planning your visit.
Weekly market and cinema
The Coteaux-du-Blanzacais weekly market takes place regularly in Blanzac-Porcheresse and offers local products. On the third Friday of each month, it becomes a fair with additional vendors. So alongside the recurring weekly market, there is a monthly extra event. If you specifically want to visit the fair, plan your trip for that Friday.
Le Select cinema screens films year-round on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays according to its schedule. Depending on the calendar, screenings may also be added on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Individual films and dates may change, so check the schedule against your travel dates if you are planning a visit to the cinema.
