Angoulins-Sur-Mer brings together coastal activities, water sports, oyster farming and historical heritage. During your stay, you can focus on the beach and swimming, sailing activities, tide-dependent rentals, or geology and architectural history. Which of these matters most to you depends on your interests.

Beach and coastal path

Plage de la Platère, at Pointe du Chay, is a place to relax and swim. There is a specific planning note for the coastal path at Pointe du Chay: it was closed to the public in 2024 because of cliff deterioration. Before visiting, check the current access conditions if you plan to take the coastal path. In your plans, distinguish between swimming at Plage de la Platère and access to the walking path.

Sailing and equipment

The Centre Nautique d’Angoulins offers courses and equipment rentals for dinghy sailing, including Optimist, windsurfing, catamaran sailing and wingfoiling. Private lessons in wingfoiling, catamaran sailing and windsurfing are available for all skill levels. You can compare the options by sport and format, from courses and equipment rentals to private lessons in one of the listed disciplines.

From April to October, the centre also rents out water sports equipment for trips in the bay of Pointe du Chay; the minimum rental period is one hour. The season and rental period are specific planning considerations. Check dates and availability before planning a trip with rented equipment.

Tides, carrelet and harbour

The Carrelet d’Angoulins can be rented by private groups of up to ten people, depending on the tide. Two factors come into play here: the tide as a condition and a maximum group size of ten. Take the tide into account before setting a rental date. Port du Loiron has 54 berths for boats, adding to the area’s range of water-related attractions.

Oysters and local offerings

There are around 15 oyster-farming and aquaculture businesses in the Marais du Chay. This approximate figure gives an idea of the scale of local activity. L’Huîtrière du Sud Ouest serves oysters, mussels and seafood from a hut on the oyster marsh route in Angoulins. These show different sides of the subject: the businesses in the Marais and a specific culinary offering. The hut’s opening arrangements may change; check them before visiting.

Geology and architectural history

Pointe du Chay features Jurassic geological formations dating from around 155.7 to 150.8 million years ago. This age range gives a more precise geological context and offers a distinct focus for anyone interested in Earth’s history. Église Saint-Pierre, a fortified former priory church, is a point of architectural and historical interest. Its fortifications and former role as a priory are two specific aspects of the church.

The information to check in advance depends on your plans: for the coastal path, check current access conditions; for equipment rentals, the season and minimum rental period; for the carrelet, the tide and group size; and for the hut, its opening arrangements.
