When choosing a destination, Triaize offers specific cycling and walking routes, marshland and cultural sites. The commune is part of the Marais poitevin Regional Natural Park. A section of the La Vélodyssée greenway also runs through Triaize. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the routes by mode of travel, length and course. Signage and conditions may change; check them before setting out.

Cycling routes and itineraries

The Boucle des polders is a 24.7-kilometre circular cycling route from Triaize to Luçon through reclaimed marshland. The Circuit du canal de Luçon is 10.6 kilometres long and follows the canal’s former towpath. The Boucle is therefore the longer route; its named reference points are the circular route, Luçon and the marshland. The shorter Circuit focuses on the canal and its former towpath. Comparing the routes by length and course helps you distinguish them rather than treating them as similar routes.

Walking loops starting at the town hall

The Circuit des Prés Saint-Jean offers two circular walking routes, 5 and 11 kilometres long. Both start at the town hall. You can therefore compare the walking options by their stated lengths; they share the same starting point. Here, you have two clearly measured circular routes to choose from, while each cycling route is defined by its own length and described course. The same applies to these routes: signage and conditions may change, so check the latest information before setting out.

Observation platforms and birdwatching

An observation platform is available along the Sentier des Iris. Maintenance or weather conditions may temporarily affect visitor facilities; check its condition before your visit. The Plateforme d'observation du marais communal de Triaize is a birdwatching site in the communal marshland. Its use requires prior approval from the Parc naturel régional du Marais poitevin. If birdwatching is one of your interests, pay particular attention to this expressly stated condition when planning.

Church and architectural history

Construction of the Église Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste in Triaize began in the late 11th century. The church follows the regional Romanesque plan and includes a nave, transept, choir and apse. These details offer several ways to understand the building: the date places it in its historical context, the regional Romanesque plan describes its architectural form, and the listed components identify elements of its layout. The nave is the main longitudinal part of a church; a transept runs across it. The choir and apse are other parts of the church building.

Floodgates and changing tides

The Portes de la Varenne are among the sector’s last floodgates and were renovated in 2011. Their operating principle is linked to the changing tide: as the tide comes in, they close under the pressure of seawater; as it goes out, they open under the pressure of fresh water. The difference between closing and opening can therefore be understood in terms of the tide and the water acting on the gates. This heritage site is notable both for its historic renovation and for its specific hydraulic function.

FĂŞte de la bouse and monthly excursions

The Fête de la bouse is a celebration of traditional crafts and rural life. It has been held annually since 1984 on the last weekend of July; the exact programme may vary. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the latest event information. The monthly “Au Fil des migrations” excursions are organised by the tourist offices in the area. Dates and booking arrangements may also vary, so check the information for your chosen period in advance. The festival date and recurring excursions offer different occasions that may influence your choice of travel dates.
