Maigné combines the history of its buildings with opportunities to explore on foot and enjoy nature.

Historic Buildings and Village History

The Manoir de la Seigneurie is part of the historic heritage. The manor house is protected as a historic monument; its façades and roofs were listed on 17 February 1928. The Château de Resteau was built in 1855 by the architect Delarue for Guy Charles d’Andigné and Blanche de Caillau. Built of brick and stone in the Neo-Renaissance style, the château’s architecture is defined by four main towers and five turrets.

The Resteau Park was also laid out in 1855, by Leroy. It has changed little since it was created. Notable trees include two cedars of Lebanon on the lawn. In earlier history, Resteau was a small independent fiefdom of the castellany of Maigné. Both projects date from 1855, but involved different tasks: Delarue built the château, while Leroy laid out the park.

Maigné is an important stop on the “Petits villages de caractères” network. Other parts of the local heritage include old grain mills, notable houses dating from the 15th to 18th centuries, a washhouse on the Gée and a former post house. These buildings offer different perspectives on the village’s history.

The range extends from the 12th-century Church of Saint-Vigor and the houses dating from the 15th to 18th centuries to the Château de Resteau, built in 1855. The church’s stained-glass windows, created by Alban de Châteauvieux in 2019, add a more recent work to this historical timeline.

Trails and Nature in Maigné

The Church of Saint-Vigor is a starting point for exploring Maigné. Flower-filled lanes are another way to get to know the village. You can request a guided tour of the village by email.

For exploring on foot, there is a signposted walking trail and an educational nature trail by a wetland. Maigné’s landscaped wetland is a good place to stop for a picnic. A heritage trail has 14 stops: ten in the village and four in the surrounding area. Maigné is also a starting point for numerous excursions into the surrounding countryside. When choosing a route, note the difference in focus: the heritage trail has stops in the village and surrounding area, while the educational nature trail by the wetland focuses on nature.
