La Daguenière brings together a description of a place shaped by rivers, former commercial navigation, the Loire à Vélo and seasonal nature watching. You can get to know the town through its landscape and history, or include specific activities and events in your travel plans. The points of interest range from permanent features to seasonal conditions.

Landscape and regional setting

The Loire borders La Daguenière to the south, and the Authion to the north. The two waterways give the town a clear north–south orientation. La Daguenière also marks the westernmost edge of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park. The town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Former ports and river landscape

Six former ports preserve the memory of the once-thriving river trade. Today, they serve as renovated, pleasant places to relax. At Port Maillard, its former use as a port for river navigation is combined with views of the Loire, its sandbanks and the slopes on the opposite bank.

Cycling route and getting your bearings in town

The Loire à Vélo passes through La Daguenière. The Église Saint Blaise et Saint Nicolas de La Daguenière is also along the route. The town’s cycling rest stop is a secure area with services tailored to cycling tourists.

Nature watching and kitesurfing at Port Maillard

At Port Maillard, you can observe wildlife that lives along the river. During the summer breeding season, animals settle on the sandbanks. As seasonal restrictions to protect wildlife may apply, check the current rules before observing.

The Port Maillard kitesurfing spot is for experienced users. It can be of interest to kitesurfers when the wind is from the southwest to west. Runs of up to 600 m are possible; the current ranges from 1 knot in the deepest areas to 4 knots in certain channels. This range shows that the current varies from one spot to another. Check conditions and safety requirements before using the spot.

Flea market, walking tour and agriculture

The La Daguenière festival committee holds a flea market every June. Its regular month makes the event a seasonal point of interest for your travel plans; the exact dates may change. So check the date before planning your trip around it.

A free guidebook for the discovery walk through La Daguenière is available from the tourist information office. As the edition may change, it is best to check in advance whether the guidebook is available there.

Agriculture is also part of the local landscape: alluvial soils favor the cultivation of fodder crops, cereals and horticultural crops. Alluvial soils were formed by deposits left by floods.
