Gétigné can be explored on foot in many different ways, from a historic walking tour through its streets to longer hikes along rivers and across meadows. There are also protected buildings, a park with Italian-inspired architecture and traces of its milling history. The following routes and places show the aspects that shape a stay in Gétigné.

Walking Tours and Hiking Trails

The historic walking tour of Gétigné is 2.02 kilometres long, takes about 30 minutes and starts at the town hall. It passes through streets and lanes and reveals the local heritage through anecdotes, remains and buildings. A map with explanatory notes accompanies the tour. Compared with the longer hikes, this is the shortest of the options described for exploring the town on foot.

The Circuit du Vieux Chemin Royal takes more time: this yellow-marked hiking trail is 10 kilometres long and takes approximately two and a half hours. It starts at the Pont Ligneau car park, follows the Sèvre nantaise and passes through fields and meadows. The trail is open year-round. Even so, check trail conditions and access before setting out.

The Circuit de la Sèvre à la Moine is a moderately challenging circular hike covering 13.8 kilometres; walking time is about three hours and 30 minutes. The route passes through Clisson and Gétigné. In the section through the countryside around Gétigné, it heads towards the banks of the Moine and follows natural, shaded paths. Compared with the Circuit du Vieux Chemin Royal, this loop is longer and rated moderately challenging; the times given are approximate in both cases.

River Landscapes and Milling History

The Garenne de la Moine covers seven hectares along the Moine, where the river flows into the Sèvre. A path runs past riverside areas, meadows and wooded sections. This natural area is open to the public for self-guided visits during the day. Check access conditions before your visit.

Moulin-Neuf is a fulling mill with a history spanning more than 300 years, situated in a former weavers’ village. Today, the site is a natural area where you can go for a walk and cross the weir footbridge by jumping from rock to rock. Surface conditions may vary after rain. At the Terbin site, the canoe and kayak club offers trips that let you discover Gétigné’s mills from the water. Availability and booking arrangements may change; check them in advance.

Architecture and Heritage

Listed as a historic monument, the Domaine de la Garenne Lemot was designed and created by sculptor François-Frédéric Lemot in the early 19th century. The 13-hectare park lies on the banks of the Sèvre nantaise and combines Italian-inspired architecture with a Tuscan house and a neoclassical villa. Its ornamental features include statues, a grotto, a column and a tomb. Villa Lemot hosts temporary exhibitions on artistic, architectural and landscape design, including displays featuring collections from the Musée Dobrée in Nantes.

The Gardener’s Cottage houses a visitor centre, a gift shop and an interpretation area that opened in 2019. Chronological displays, images and interactive features focus on the estate and the people who shaped it. Admission is free and the venue is open to everyone. Check opening hours before your visit.

The construction dates of two religious buildings also provide specific historical reference points: the Church of Sainte-Radegonde was rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1867 and 1870 and has a squat, square bell tower. Construction of the Chapel of Sainte-Anne began in 1906; the first Mass was celebrated there in 1908. Gétigné is therefore home to a variety of historical traces, from a milling history shaped by the Middle Ages to 19th-century buildings and a walking tour that brings together anecdotes, buildings and remains.
