Discover Bouvron: Walking Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in Bouvron
Bouvron is best explored through its walking trails and local cultural and memorial sites. Four interconnected, yellow-marked trails registered with the P.D.I.P.R. make it possible to cross the commune on foot. Each route has a different focus: they circle the town centre, cross rural landscapes or visit historic sites.
Walking Trails and Landscapes
The Circuit autour du Bourg runs partly along Voies vertes and partly along local roads and streets. It invites individuals, groups and families to take a stroll around the centre of Bouvron. For a rural route, the Circuit de Saint-Eloi offers a different landscape: it follows a former railway line and a shaded green path. Its character is defined by mostly flat rural trails, hamlets and green meadows.
The Circuit du Champ de Mont is a 14.3-kilometre PR loop. It leads to the site of Bouvron’s oldest windmill and offers panoramic views. Ouessant sheep graze on the green slopes. The Circuit de Gavalais starts in Bouvron and follows rural paths with panoramic views. At Le Chênet, the route also offers an orientation table with panoramic views. Bouvron therefore has a range of trail profiles: a loop around the town centre, rural paths and a designated 14.3-kilometre circuit.
Memorial Sites and Architecture
The Site de la Reddition commemorates the official and unconditional surrender of the German troops on 11 May 1945. It took place in the Grand Clos meadow, west of the town centre. The present-day monument was inaugurated on 9 October 1949, replacing a wooden Cross of Lorraine erected in 1947. The site thus links the event to the later creation of its memorial.
The Eglise Saint Sauveur houses a painted wooden altar from the destroyed former Chapel of St Mathurin and a baptismal font from the destroyed former medieval church. Sculptures by contemporary artist Jean Fréour adorn the interior and porch. A former communal bread oven is another surviving trace of local heritage: one such oven was restored by the La Fouretaisienne association.
Culture and Other Activities
HORIZINC is a cultural venue with 245 seats in raked rows. Since 2009, it has hosted annual performances as part of the municipal and intercommunal cultural programme, as well as artist residencies. Walking is not the only reason to visit: the cultural venue, church and Site de la Reddition also give Bouvron a cultural and historical dimension.
Another activity available in Bouvron year-round is a Baludik treasure hunt adventure in the heart of the Poche de Saint-Nazaire. It adds a different kind of experience to the routes, though it is not itself a walking trail. For travellers interested in local produce, the Microbrasserie du Canal makes craft beers with wild hops from the canal. The range includes white, dark, blonde and red beers, sold in 33 cl bottles under the « L’Eclusière » brand.
Bouvron offers several themes to consider when planning your trip: interconnected walking trails, rural panoramas, a clearly identified historic memorial site and its own cultural programme. You can choose which ones to include in your stay by looking at the specific routes and places.
