Buchy offers travelers several points of interest: the Monday market, the historic covered market halls, the Notre-Dame parish church, and walking tours and hikes.

Marché de Buchy: Monday Market Tradition

The Marché de Buchy has been held under the covered market halls since the 13th century and is documented at least as far back as 1227. The Monday market offers local products and poultry from small-scale farms. The Marché de Buchy is also considered one of the last markets in the Seine-Maritime département to feature live animals. The market’s offerings may vary by date. If you are planning a visit, check what will be available on your chosen date before setting out, especially the current situation regarding live animals.

The Covered Market Halls and Their History

The Halles de Buchy stand beside the present-day town hall and were probably built before 1679. They were listed as historic monuments by decree on March 26, 1934. The probable construction date before 1679 and the 1934 listing mark different milestones: the presumed age of the halls and their later protected status. Located on the road from Rouen to Forges, the market hall has stalls and hooks, which is why it is called the “Halles des bouchers” (butchers’ market halls).

Notre-Dame: Construction Phases and Stained Glass

The choir of the Notre-Dame parish church dates from the 16th century. The stained-glass window “verrière (baie 0)” in the church also dates from this period. On December 5, 1908, the window was designated a protected historic object. The nave and bell tower have a more recent construction history: they were rebuilt in 1860, 1862, and 1863. Notre-Dame thus brings together architectural elements and a work of art from the 16th century with the later rebuilding of the nave and tower; the 1908 protection date applies specifically to the individual stained-glass window.

Cultural Walk and Hike

The 2026 program schedules the Visite de Buchy on several dates as a guided cultural walking tour. It explores the centuries-old covered market halls, with the meeting point at the parking lot by Buchy town hall. The date of your visit is key to planning. The Circuit du Nid du Geai has a different focus: it is considered a short, family-friendly hike across the open plain and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced hikers.

The two walking options have clearly different focuses: the Visite centers on the covered market halls, while the Circuit takes you across the open plain. You can choose between a guided cultural walk and a short hike, depending on which better suits your travel plans. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, check current conditions before setting out.
