Discover Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe
Accommodation in Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe
Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe offers several reasons to visit: church and manor-house history, horse-riding activities, a hiking trail and recurring events. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip focused on culture or activities, these topics can help you assess the place according to your interests. The buildings can be viewed through their different periods of construction; for leisure activities, the specific type of activity matters, and for festivals, the date.
Church and manor house: different histories of construction
The present-day Sainte-Gauburge parish church was built in place of the former churches of Sainte-Colombe and Sainte-Gauburge after the two parishes were united in 1864. The foundation stone was laid in 1869, and the building was consecrated in 1875. Its furnishings include two Neo-Gothic side altars, two tabernacles and two altarpieces; the altarpieces are dedicated to the Sacred Heart and the Virgin. The building history and dedications draw attention to two different aspects: the construction of the building and the religious significance of its altarpieces.
The Le Vauferment manor house was built in the 16th century and remodelled in the 18th century; the lintel bears the date 1739. After 1871, it was converted into a barn and the upper floor was removed. Compared with the present-day parish church, built after the parishes were united in the 19th century, the manor house has a longer history of construction and includes a later conversion. The two buildings thus represent different periods in local history.
If you are arriving from the direction of Paris, you will find the calvary at the entrance to the village, on the edge of the D926 departmental road. Its location is a useful landmark for this direction of arrival.
Horse riding, hiking and events
The Centre Equestre de Sainte Gauburge offers horse-riding activities for nature lovers, competition-oriented riders, children from baby-pony age onwards, and people with disabilities. The programme includes one- to two-hour rides, hikes, and introductory and advanced courses. There are also junior courses for children aged 7 to 14. If horse riding is important to your travel plans, you can consider which format you would like and check the specific arrangements before you arrive.
Hiking is also available in Le Bourg, where a hiking trail is listed. If you plan to use it, check access and trail conditions before your visit.
The Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe village festival takes place every third weekend in June. The Fête de la Terre combines traditional activities such as ploughing, regional products and equestrian displays with newer entertainment, including helicopter sightseeing flights, concerts and a mountain-bike show. While the village festival takes place regularly in June, the Fête de la Terre can be distinguished by its combination of traditional and newer programme items. If you would like to plan your stay around a festival, check the specific event date before travelling.
