Saint-Cornier-Des-Landes is a suitable destination for travelers who want to discover local craft history and village traditions. The nail smithy, wooden clog workshop, Notre Dame de la Salette monument and recurring events offer different highlights for a stay. A circular walking trail adds another option.

Blacksmithing and Wooden Clog Craft

The smithy that now houses the Musée du Clou was the last smithy still operating in Saint-Cornier-des-Landes. During demonstrations, visitors can see how different types of nails are forged. The focus here is on making a variety of nails.

The Maison du Sabotier displays a wooden clog-making machine and several finished wooden clog designs. It also has a collection of wooden clogs from different places of origin. A film lasting around 20 minutes explains the history of wooden clog makers and their working methods. The two museums therefore offer different perspectives: the Musée du Clou focuses on blacksmithing, while the Maison du Sabotier focuses on wooden clogs and how they are made.

From June to September, both museums are open on Friday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. At other times, groups are welcomed by appointment. Check the opening hours before your arrival.

Local History and Events

The Notre Dame de la Salette monument stands on the outskirts of Saint-Cornier-des-Landes, behind the school in the direction of Yvrandes. Residents built it to thank the Virgin Mary for her protection during the bombings of the Second World War. The site thus combines a visible monument with a specific reminder of the war years.

The Puces Moto is held annually in the village center on the first Sunday in May. It includes the sale of vehicles, spare parts and accessories, as well as a decibel competition. Admission for visitors and parking are free; refreshments are available on site. The program and arrangements may change with each edition. Check the date for the relevant year before planning your trip.

For the annual illuminations, volunteers decorate the town together to take part in the Villes et Villages Illuminés competition. Visitors can admire the decorations throughout December. Dates may vary with each edition, so check the period in advance.
