If you are looking for a hotel in Treauville, local history and the harbour offer different starting points for planning your stay around your own interests. Specific topics include the history of Manoir de la Houssairie, historic mills, the church and cemetery, and Port de Diélette. This brings together personal local history, architectural evidence and harbour activity.

Manor and mill history

Manoir de la Houssairie was the residence of Jacques-Casimir Jouan when he was not taking part in military campaigns. He returned to Treauville and served as mayor there from 1843 until his death in 1847. These details connect a specific residence with a later municipal role: Jouan’s life took him from the campaigns back to Treauville and into the mayor’s office.

At the end of the 19th century, five watermills were operating along the Diélette in the territory of Treauville. One named trace of this history is the Moulin de l'Eglise: its walls are still visible at 9, L'Église. The five mills describe the activity along the river at the time; the surviving walls are associated with a specific mill site.

La Potille adds another historic feature: the granite boundary stone marks the border between Treauville and Siouville and becomes visible at low tide. The tidal condition is relevant when planning a visit, as the stone is not visible at every water level.

Cemetery and church

The Jouan family burial site is in the Treauville cemetery. Four privateers associated with the French ship Le Renard, captained by the privateer Robert Surcouf, are also buried there. The large cross in the cemetery dates from 1678. Its base rests on four square pillars and a three-step flight of steps. The burial sites, the connection to the ship Le Renard and the cross’s described design represent different historical associations.

The church of Saint-Pierre contains an altar set consisting of an altar cross and six candlesticks. Along with the cemetery cross, this ensemble shows another aspect of the local heritage: while the large cross is described by its date and construction, the altar set comprises the named objects at the altar.

Port de Diélette and getting there

Port de Diélette is a marina that also accommodates fishing, commercial traffic and passenger services to the Channel Islands. The part of the harbour belonging to Treauville includes the harbour office, commercial premises and a boatyard for maintenance and repair work on boats. Port de Diélette also has a boat lift, a mast crane and a station for pumping out blackwater. Leisure, transport and technical harbour facilities are different aspects of the port.
