Sacey combines historic buildings with a fishing pond, a walking trail and open wetlands. When planning a stay, you can choose from a range of interests: the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié and Église Saint-Martin offer historic points of interest, Étang du Pont au Roy is a fishing pond, and the walking trail includes specific details about its length and duration. The Marais de Boucey et d'Aucey add seasonal wetlands and a diverse bird population to your travel plans.

Pond and fishing

Étang du Pont au Roy is a purpose-built, well-maintained fishing pond of about one hectare, and it belongs to the first fishing category. It is suitable for both trout fishing and coarse fishing. Management details may change, so check the conditions before your visit.

Chapel and architectural history

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié stands beside Étang du Pont au Roy. It is the only surviving remnant of a castle once built on this site. Of the former castle, only the gatehouse remains; it was converted into the chapel. Some archaeologists believe that the former gatehouse at the main entrance was used for this purpose. The tower-like shape, thick walls and roof opening are associated with a guard keeping watch over the castle entrance. The chapel and the surrounding moats were partially designated as a Monument historique by decree on 31 March 1992.

Église Saint-Martin dates back to the 11th century and has undergone extensive alterations. The historic buildings therefore offer different points of interest: the church is defined by both its age and its later alterations, while the chapel is closely linked to the history of the former castle.

Walking trail with duration details

The “Visite patrimoniale en campagne” walking trail is 11 kilometres long. It takes about three hours on foot and 45 minutes by bicycle. This comparison shows the different time required for each mode of travel; the stated distance remains the same. The trail is marked in yellow and is rated as easy. Check the local information about the markings and difficulty before setting out. The route invites visitors to discover the canton’s small-scale historic heritage.

Wetlands and birdlife

The Marais de Boucey et d'Aucey are very open bocage pastures and seasonal wetlands. They serve as temporary retention basins and natural filters, and are flooded in winter. Their diverse birdlife includes ducks, waders and birds of prey. Water, open pastureland and wildlife shape the landscape here, while fishing takes centre stage at the pond and history at the historic buildings. If you are planning a visit, check local conditions in advance.
