Camprond combines historical and cultural details with seasonally scheduled hikes. Saint-Pierre Church and its artworks offer a different way to experience the town than the marked trails; there is also a protected cemetery cross and the Grand Moulin’s historic connection to milling. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing the church’s architectural and art history from the hikes, which take place on specific dates. Check the relevant announcement for your travel dates if you plan to join one of the hikes.

Saint-Pierre Church: architecture and artworks

Saint-Pierre Church is dedicated to the Apostle Peter and is built in the shape of a cross. It underwent extensive alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its original layout and later interventions can be read as two distinct aspects of its architectural history: the cross-shaped plan describes the design, while the alterations mark changes made over two centuries.

The church houses a 15th-century limestone statue of Saint Anne and the Virgin Mary. It has been protected as a historic object since 1935. The sculpture therefore belongs to an earlier period than the extensive alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The stained-glass windows add another distinct point in time: Georges Sagot made them between 1935 and 1945. Saint-Pierre Church thus brings together a late-medieval sculpture, phases of renovation spanning two centuries, and stained-glass windows from the mid-20th century.

Another protected landmark is the Camprond cemetery cross. It has been protected as a historic object since November 14, 1977. Its protection date adds a distinct feature of the town to the dates associated with the artworks and architectural changes at Saint-Pierre Church.

Hiking: distinguishing trails and dates

Hikes called “Les randonnées du mardi soir” (Tuesday evening hikes) were held in Camprond and are listed for 2024 and 2026. The individual dates and schedules are seasonal. Distances of 8 km were given, as well as 5 km and 9 km, depending on the program and date. So don’t assume that every hike follows the same distance; instead, check the specific announcement for your travel dates. In the 2026 program, these hikes met at Place de l’église Saint-Pierre in Camprond.

The “Circuit du bocage” is a separately named hike, listed as 8 to 10 km. For this route, the meeting point is the car park at Camprond town hall; this meeting point was listed in the 2024 and 2026 programs. The distances for the two hiking options can therefore be clearly distinguished: the listed distances for “Les randonnées du mardi soir” vary by event, while the “Circuit du bocage” is described as 8 to 10 km. When choosing a hike, check the distance and date for the one you plan to join.

Milling history, the town’s name and places to eat

The stream La Lainée is part of the area’s historic milling connection. It formed a relatively wide millrace and supplied the Grand Moulin. A millrace is a watercourse that carries water to a mill; the term helps explain the connection between the stream and the mill. This aspect adds a reference to local milling history to the architectural and art history of Saint-Pierre Church.

There is also a historical interpretation of the town’s name: Camprond is associated with “round field”; “Campus Rotundi” is recorded as a medieval form. “Round field” is a possible interpretation, not a certainty. The name thus offers its own perspective on the town’s history, alongside its tangible buildings and artworks.

There is also a time-specific note for a possible meal stop: in June 2026, 25-year-old Jordan Lenoir took over the management of the restaurant Assiette Campronnaise, now called Le P’tit Campronnais. If you would like to include the restaurant in your plans, check that it is currently open beforehand.
