Quibou offers travelers several options for planning their day: named routes with specific time estimates, walking trails through varied landscapes and works of art in Église Saint-Rémy. Depending on your interests, you can make outdoor activities, local history or culture the focus of your trip.

Routes, Landscapes and Pilgrimage History

The “Sur les traces de Jean Follain” route is 8.5 km long. The stated times are two hours on foot, one hour by mountain bike and one hour and five minutes on horseback. The “Escapade autour des clochers” is 9.9 km long; the stated walking time is two hours and 45 minutes. For a direct comparison on foot, the second route is 1.4 km longer and takes 45 minutes more to walk. Check the conditions on each route before setting out. For the first route, the mountain biking time is half the walking time.

Walking trails in Quibou pass through sunken lanes, wooded areas and along riverbanks. These landscapes offer different facets of the town’s walking experience. Today’s D100 provides another link to history: it runs through Quibou from east to west and is known as the “Chemin Montois.” This very old pilgrimage route leads to Mont-Saint-Michel and onward to Santiago de Compostela.

Église Saint-Rémy and Bridges

Église Saint-Rémy was rebuilt in 1954 by Henri Tougard and Yves Cochepain, using surviving components and adding a new choir. The nave windows had already been created in 1952 by Parisian stained-glass artist Jean Gaudin. Helen Mai, whose real name was Jeanne Lartigue, created the tapestry in the choir and the church’s Stations of the Cross. The dates and different works of art offer several specific points of interest for exploring the building.

The Pont de la Bonhommière is also part of the commune’s heritage. It is considered Quibou’s oldest bridge and may date from the 17th century. This date is a possibility, not a confirmed year. Those interested in local history will find another named historical landmark here, alongside the church’s history.

Market and Fishing

The Collectif Bio Quibois organic market takes place in Quibou on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. If you plan to visit during your trip, confirm the date before you arrive. This makes it easy to coordinate a visit to the market with the rest of your day’s plans.

A fishing permit is required to fish in the Joigne. Check the applicable fishing regulations before setting out. Along with the walking trails, fishing requirements are another practical point to consider when planning.
