Morsalines offers three practical perspectives for planning your trip: the bay’s tidal landscape, coastal paths and historic buildings. The tides cause the Baie de Morsalines to empty twice a day, exposing a two-kilometre-wide tidal-flat area. The bay floor is flat and sandy. The exposed tidal flats make the tides a visible part of the landscape; at the same time, you should take them into account when planning a hike.

Tidal Landscape and Coastal Trail

The coast of Morsalines, explored on Cap sur Morsalines, is designated as a Natura 2000 site. Migratory birds can be observed along the coastal trail; such sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. For nature enthusiasts, the distinction in timing is important: the Natura 2000 designation is a permanent feature of the landscape, while opportunities to observe migratory birds are seasonal.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

Cap sur Morsalines is an easy 4.9-kilometre hike with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The starting point is the car park by the community event hall. The trail is accessible by car, but is not served by the Cap Cotentin bus network. Check transport connections again before your arrival. Hiking conditions can vary with the tides and weather; take both into account when planning the timing of your outing.

Pay particular attention to the tides when planning for the Chemin de la Redoute: at high tide, it is not always passable, and some sections can be wet. The GR®223 leads to La Redoute de Morsalines and then passes through the centre of Morsalines and through Rivage. A distance and stated duration are given for Cap sur; the GR®223 is described by its route. This comparison helps with planning: the first set of details helps you estimate the time, while the second shows which places the route passes through.

On La Vélomaritime / EuroVelo 4, the climb runs along the D216 from Morsalines to the junction with the D14. If you plan to cycle this section, check the signage and conditions on site.

Church and Historic Traces

The Église Notre-Dame de Morsalines is listed in its entirety in the inventory of Monuments Historiques. The foundations of its bell tower may date back to the Romanesque period. The church is surrounded by a maritime cemetery and is known for ex-voto boats engraved in stone. Visits are possible on request; numerous concerts are also held there. Request a visit and check concert dates in advance.

La Redoute de Morsalines offers a different historical emphasis from the Église: a bunker built by the German army and concrete machine-gun nests have been preserved there. This highlights the distinction between the cultural features: the Église is associated with ecclesiastical heritage and ex-voto boats, while the Redoute preserves military concrete structures.
