La Feuillie offers two distinct focal points for planning a trip: the art-historical furnishings of the Église Saint-Nicolas and nature experiences around ponds and along trails. If you want to include historic art in your plans, you can distinguish individual objects by their origins, protection status and location. For time outdoors, the main attractions are a circular trail of a few hundred metres at the Etang de La Feuillie and the Les sentiers de Foliata walking route, with its wooded heathland. This makes it easy to tailor your stay to whether church art, a family outing by the water or a hiking landscape appeals to you most.

History and Furnishings of the Église Saint-Nicolas

Several items in the Église Saint-Nicolas have specific historical dates associated with them. The protected furnishings include the former high altar, the tabernacle and the statue plinths; they were listed as a protected object on 25 September 1968. A stone statue of the Virgin and Child stands on the south-western pillar of the crossing. It dates from the second half of the 14th century and was listed as a protected object on 27 February 1926. The date the statue was made should be distinguished from the later protection dates: 1926 applies to the statue, while 1968 applies to the furnishings.

The pulpit also offers several clues to its date and location. The carved oak pulpit is on the north wall of the nave. It is dated to either 1747 or 1777; both dates are possible. It was restored in late 2009 and early 2010. The crossing is where the nave and transept meet. The statue on the south-western pillar of the crossing and the pulpit on the north wall of the nave are therefore in distinct, clearly identifiable parts of the church. In the case of the pulpit, its possible date and its later restoration period belong to two different stages of its history.

Pond, Circular Trail and Heathland

The Etang de La Feuillie is designated as a wetland and aquatic habitat. The pond has a circular trail of a few hundred metres, making it suitable for a family outing. There is also a playground, picnic tables and a boules court on the grounds. The short walk thus goes hand in hand with practical options for a break or a shared activity. If you plan to use the trail and facilities, check the current conditions on site.

An old mill with a wooden wheel can be seen beside the car park at the Etang de La Feuillie. Check before your visit whether it is visible on site. The Les sentiers de Foliata walking route offers a different landscape: it starts by a pond and passes through wooded heathland, where open areas alternate with undergrowth. The two walking options differ in the features described: at the Etang, the main attraction is a circular trail of a few hundred metres; on Les sentiers de Foliata, it is the alternation between open ground and undergrowth. Starting by a pond is also part of the description of this route.

Apple Products from the Cotentin

Les Délices de la Pomme makes products from apples grown in the family orchard and manages the land without pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Products for sale include apple juice, cider, apple preserves, apple balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar made from 100% Cotentin apples. The specific products available may change. If you would like to include local produce in your trip planning alongside church art and scenery, this is another way to connect with the Cotentin and the family orchard.
