Hauteville-Sur-Mer offers different ways to shape your stay: time at the beach, seaside walks, water sports and insights into local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Hauteville-Sur-Mer, you can consider which of these aspects of your stay matter most to you. The promenade runs along the beach for 820 metres; cultural sites and a regular market add to the character of this coastal town.

Beach, walks and activities by the sea

Plage de la Cale nord is a spacious sandy beach with a family-friendly atmosphere. At the Promenoir de Hauteville-sur-Mer, you can combine time at the beach with a walk: the route is also suitable for running and relaxing. You can sit on benches and look out to sea. This offers two different options: a longer walk along the beach or time spent on the sand.

The Digue-promenade is also a place for walks. Meals and concerts are organised there; at sporting events, spectators cheer on the competitors. Events may vary. For land sailing, the Association Nautique Hautaise offers two-hour group lessons for ages ten and up. They progress from an introduction to getting acquainted with the activity and then developing skills. The Association also offers kayaking on the sea or rivers, stand-up paddleboarding, wing foiling and windsurfing. There are activities for toddlers at the Jardin des mers or with Moussaillons. Programmes and opening times may vary.

Those interested in walking routes can choose from different route descriptions: Les chemins du Mont-Saint-Michel – Chemin de Cherbourg – Ancteville – Hauteville-sur-Mer leads to the town centre along small sunken lanes or quiet roads. For the Circuit du bord de mer loop, the church in the town centre is recommended as the starting point. The routes therefore differ both in their course and in the type of starting point.

Maritime structures and local history

PĂŞcherie La Maillard is a wooden maritime fishing structure. Its construction includes two wooden posts, each 500 metres long, that form a V on the beach at low tide. La Tourelle au Capitaine offers a view of the town centre of Hauteville-Sur-Mer, its church and the sea. The structure dates from the 17th century and was probably built to plans by Vauban.

Église de la Vierge Marie en son Assomption has an old tower dating from the 12th century, on which the present bell tower was built. In unsettled times, the former tower served as a refuge and as a lookout and defensive structure. La Chapelle de la plage offers a different historical note: it was completed in 1960, and its colourful choir windows were donated by Père Roger Picque. Le Château des Pavillons was initially a simple hunting lodge in 1722.

Église Notre-Dame in Hauteville-sur-Mer has 20 stained-glass window panels by Gabriel Loire. They cover a total area of 45 square metres and were created in 1951. Art and architecture can also be experienced at Le cinéma de la plage: the main auditorium and foyer were modernised in 2010, and the cinema has two screens. Discussions and appearances by actors or directors take place there; the programme may vary.

Market and practical information

Marché Hautais offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, artisan cheeses, bread, honey and other local products. The market takes place regularly, but you should check the times and vendors according to the season. This makes it easier to plan a market visit during your stay without assuming that the offerings remain the same.

At Plage de la Cale sud, there are three reserved parking spaces and an accessible restroom. A paved path leads from there, with assistance, to the lifeguard station and the promenade. As facilities and access arrangements may change, check these details before your visit.
