Lamagistère offers a range of options for a stay: you can explore a neoclassical church, plan a short loop around Lac Bleu de Bergon or experience a longer stretch of the voie verte along the Canal des Deux Mers. The distances can help you choose between a stroll and a longer route; the church and l’Escampadou site provide further cultural points of interest during a visit to the town.

Church architecture and furnishings

The Église de l’Immaculée Conception was built between 1825 and 1833. The neoclassical building is made of brick, with the exception of the façade. Its style and building materials give the church a clearly defined architectural character. The interior furnishings include a choir screen, an altar, five statues, two paintings and a pulpit. Liturgical elements thus sit alongside statues and paintings; the furnishings can be viewed not only through the architecture but also through their individual features.

A loop and activities at Lac Bleu de Bergon

Lac Bleu de Bergon is a former gravel pit dating from 1972 that has been converted into a recreational area and is popular with walkers. The flat, easy-to-follow circular path is 1.4 kilometres long and accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users and people with pushchairs. This makes it a short, clearly defined option. Check local conditions and any temporary maintenance restrictions before you arrive.

At the lake, you can go for walks, have picnics in the shade of the trees, fish for carp, let children play and take part in sporting activities. Some activities may vary seasonally. Options range from a picnic or walk to fishing, games and sport. Which activity you plan will also depend on what is available in the season.

The Canal des Deux Mers and the voie verte

A short detour from the lakeside loop along the voie verte leads to a bridge over the Canal des Deux Mers. For a longer route, the developed and secured voie verte section runs alongside the Canal from Lamagistère to Moissac for 24 kilometres. Compared with the 1.4-kilometre lakeside loop, this is a significantly longer distance to plan for. Check the current path conditions before setting off. The lakeside loop returns to its starting point; the canal route, by contrast, runs from Lamagistère to Moissac.

The site by the Canal des Deux Mers is called l’Escampadou. The l’Escampadou structure is a masonry construction where the Canal des Deux Mers crosses the Barguelonne. This crossing offers another architectural point of interest connected to the area’s waterways: unlike the church architecture, the focus here is on the masonry and the relationship between the Canal and the Barguelonne.
