Saint-Junien combines its local leather and glove-making crafts with Romanesque heritage, outdoor art and riverside paths. The town offers a range of experiences, from the Cité du cuir and the Collégiale to walks by the water.

Leather Craft at the Museum and Workshops

Opened in December 2025, the Cité du cuir presents the step-by-step process of making leather gloves and places it in the context of the local leather and glove-making crafts. This immersive museum is devoted to the entire production process.

If you would like to work with leather yourself, you can take part in hands-on workshops and make a personal leather item. The workshop programme may vary. Some workshops in Saint-Junien open their doors to the public and have factory outlets. Before visiting, check whether the workshop in question is open to visitors and whether the outlet is open.

Romanesque Heritage and Outdoor Art

The Collégiale de Saint-Junien is one of the largest and oldest Romanesque churches in the Limousin. Audio guides are available; guided tours for groups can be arranged by reservation. The church also houses a monumental tomb containing the sarcophagus of Saint Junien.

The terraces of the Abbaye de Saint-Amand form a terraced garden that is open to the public year-round and offers views over the Vienne. Another perspective is offered by L’Échappée des Arts: this freely accessible outdoor art trail links works installed throughout the town of Saint-Junien.

Paths along the Glane and the Vienne

The two routes described differ considerably in length: the Circuit des 2 Rivières is 3 km long and runs from the Chapelle Notre-Dame, via the Pont Sainte-Elisabeth, along the banks of the Vienne and the Glane to the Chalet Corot. The Les Feutrières circular route is 6.3 km long, takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and follows the Glane through a landscape of interest for its flora and fauna that inspired the painter Corot.

The Site Corot is a natural area classified as a ZNIEFF, beside the Glane, and is suitable for riverside walks and fishing. You may see royal ferns and white-throated dippers there; wildlife sightings vary by season. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

A Recurring Event

The Ostensions of Saint-Junien take place every seven years and include a historical procession with 1,500 participants. The next edition is scheduled for June 2030. If you plan to time your trip to coincide with it, check the event date before booking.
