Eymoutiers offers several ways to shape a trip: art and minerals, traces of its tannery history, trails, fishing and a weekly market. If you’re looking for a hotel in Eymoutiers, you can plan your stay around the things that interest you.

Art, minerals and local history

The Espace Paul Rebeyrolle houses more than 80 works dating from 1948 to 2005. The size of the collection may change as the holdings evolve. The Musée des Minéraux displays minerals and fossils from around the world, as well as minerals typical of the Limousin. More than 40 display cases present the collection; one shows the luminescence and fluorescence of crystals under UV light. This brings together a worldwide collection and a regional focus, complemented by the display of crystals under light.

The tannery trade also shaped the town’s history: it reached its heyday in Eymoutiers in the 17th century. Some tanners’ houses still have open lofts, originally used for drying hides. This architectural feature reflects the houses’ former working purpose. The former Ursuline convent served a different historical function. Ursulines lived there from 1629 and taught girls there until 1790.

Trails and access

The Le Tour d’Eymoutiers trail passes through forests, goes by a small mill and offers viewpoints. The Autour de la gare d’Eymoutiers trail starts right next to Eymoutiers train station and is accessible by train. If you’re travelling by rail, check the timetable for your travel date. A wooden footbridge leads from Les Porots to Parc du Pré Lanaud.

Fishing and themed trails

The Vienne, a first-category fishing river, runs through the centre of Eymoutiers along a no-kill fishing stretch. Check the fishing regulations and access before setting out. A fishing permit from the local angling association is required to fish at the Étang de Fressengeas; it is available from the Eymoutiers tourist office. Check in advance whether the permit is available for your chosen date.

Tèrra Aventura offers two different themes: «L’art contemporain à Eymoutiers» is a 5 km circular route where you can discover the town through the perspective of contemporary art. «L’histoire des Pelauds» takes you on a search for the ring lost by the bishop and features historical figures from the town. The experiences therefore differ both in their connection to art and in their storytelling.

Market and Le Pelaud

A market is held every Saturday morning at Place Stalingrad. If you’re planning your visit around it, check the current schedule. Le Pelaud is a small pastry available in Eymoutiers, made with almond powder and coated in chocolate. The recipe was developed in the 1930s.
