Sorède: Hiking and Heritage at the Foot of the Albères Massif
Accommodation in Sorède
Sorède lies at the foot of the Albères Massif and near the Mediterranean beaches. Its location by the mountains and its proximity to the sea give you two distinct geographical points of reference when planning your trip. Activities include hiking, a walk around the village and cycling; religious history, architecture and crafts add to the themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Sorède, you can start by considering which of these aspects of the destination you want to shape your stay.
Hiking and Cycling in Sorède
Numerous hikes start in Lavail. Seasonal regulations apply to access, so you should take them into account when planning. In the village, the Parcours découvertes de Sorède is an easy, shady walk through the village; there are several possible places to stop along the river. This route is an option if you would like to experience the village and the river on a shady walk.
Another hike crosses Sorède, follows the Le Tassio River and offers the chance to discover old, well-preserved shepherds’ huts in the Albères. Compared with the village walk, it focuses on the river and the shepherds’ huts. The Rec Mayral adds a historical irrigation system to these themes: it is very old and includes around twenty side channels. The approximate number gives a sense of how extensively the system branches out.
For cycling, there is a protected cycle route on the Méditerranée à vélo (EV8), connecting Valmy with the village of Sorède. Along the way, it passes through olive groves, vineyards and the garrigue. The EV8 thus offers a different focus from the hiking options: cycling and the connection between two named places take center stage, while the walking routes bring the village, Le Tassio and the shepherds’ huts into view.
