Discover Planèzes
Accommodation in Planèzes
Planèzes offers a range of ways to plan your trip, including hiking trails of varying lengths, winemaking, local history and events at Parc Loubet de Sceaury. When looking for a hotel for your trip to Planèzes, it helps to decide in advance whether hiking, winemaking, local history or an event will be the main focus. The details below show how trails, access and seasonal dates differ.
Hiking trails with different profiles
The Sentier d’Emilie is less than 1,500 metres long. The outward stretch climbs and passes through La Clotade, Roque Courbe, Les Fontasses and Bac del Four Ouest. At the end, you can either turn back along a gently descending path or turn left onto a hiking trail that continues for several kilometres. This gives you the choice of a shorter return or a longer continuation.
The very easy Saint-Pierre à Saint-Martin hiking route is 9.0 kilometres long and starts in Planèzes. It passes through vineyards to the Chapelle Saint-Martin. The chapel is privately owned and not open to visitors. Check local trail conditions before setting out on either hike.
Nature and access conditions
The Tour de Trémoine sector, which extends across the municipalities of Planèzes and Rasiguères, has been protected by a prefectural biotope conservation order since 1991. One particular reason for this is the rare and especially sensitive Bonelli’s eagle. Entry to this biotope is prohibited from 15 January to 30 June. Property owners and their successors are exempt for the ongoing maintenance of their land.
The named locations Le Barrage and Gourd’En Coq lie on the Agly near Planèzes. Le Barrage has waterfalls and rapids; water conditions may vary. Local tradition associates Gourd’En Coq with learning to swim. Alongside the riverside scenery, these places also bring to mind the local use of the Agly.
Winemaking and local history
The Découverte du vignoble route begins at the Planèzes cooperative winery with an introduction to different grape varieties. It continues to the Rasiguères cooperative winery, where wines from these terroirs can be tasted. If you plan to include a tasting, check the current options in advance.
Several casots in Planèzes are closely associated with winemaking. Some of the finest and most carefully built examples date from around 1850. The capitelles are located in the areas of Canorques, St Martin, Bac, Garouilla and Sarrat del Coll del Gabach. They are reminders of their former importance to the ancestors of today’s residents.
Chapels and cemetery history
A Romanesque chapel in Planèzes probably dates from the 12th century. Its apse is semicircular, and it has no bell tower. Another historic landmark is the old cemetery around the Chapelle Saint-Pierre, which was used for burials until the 1920s.
Parc Loubet de Sceaury and events
Parc Loubet de Sceaury lies southeast of the village and is open to everyone free of charge. Every July, public concerts are held there over four days during Les Musicales de l’Agly; a film night takes place in mid-August. Les Musicales de l’Agly is a festival in Planèzes featuring concerts and an aperitif with tastings. If you are planning your trip around a particular event, check the exact dates and schedules in advance.
