Saint-Cyprien-Plage: Gardens, Nature and the Port
Accommodation in Saint-Cyprien-Plage
Saint-Cyprien-Plage can be explored through several distinct themes: botanical heritage, natural surroundings, art collections and the port all shape the character of the town.
Botanical Heritage and Art
The Jardin des plantes Les Capellans was restored by the town of Saint-Cyprien in 1998. The aim was to preserve the heritage passed down from the 19th century and create a botanical garden. The Jardin des plantes des Capellans is classified as a “Jardin Remarquable” (Remarkable Garden). It covers five hectares and is home to more than 500 botanical species.
Highlights include a bamboo grove, a remarkable collection of old roses, some very rare Mediterranean trees and shrubs, and a pond with a Victoria water lily. In summer, the garden hosts concerts, film screenings, guided tours and children’s workshops. Dates and individual events may vary.
The collections of Saint-Cyprien comprise more than 700 works from the bequest of François Desnoyer. They are complemented by 19th- and 20th-century paintings acquired later. The collections present exhibitions throughout the year. This brings together a substantial body of work from a bequest and additional paintings spanning two centuries.
Nature Park and Beach Activities
The six-hectare Parc de la Prade nature park lies between the village of Saint-Cyprien and the beach. Its features include shady paths, playgrounds, a fitness trail and a multi-sport court. Three ponds are home to a diverse range of wildlife. The contrast between the two settings can help you choose: the Jardin focuses on plant collections and garden heritage, while the park offers paths, play and sports areas, and wildlife around the ponds.
Kitesurfing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are available seasonally at Plage Nord. Two water sports clubs offer lessons and equipment hire there; operators and seasonal opening times may change. If you are planning to take a lesson or hire equipment, check the dates and availability in advance.
The access point to Europe’s first water-bike course is at Plage de l’Office de Tourisme. Check locally whether the installation is currently in place. Hydrobiking is also available seasonally at this beach.
The Port and Travel Planning
The Port de Saint-Cyprien was built in 1967 as part of a major coastal development programme. It has 1,885 berths, including 780 marina berths. As capacity may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before making specific plans.
The activities also vary by time of year: the collections present exhibitions year-round, events in the garden take place in summer, and water sports are seasonal. If you are travelling for a particular concert, guided tour or children’s workshop, check the dates in advance, as individual events may vary.
