Discover Le Barcares
Accommodation in Le Barcares
When searching for a hotel in Le Barcares, local themes can influence your choice of where to stay. These include fishing history, cultural events, nature and cycling routes. Before booking, you can consider which experiences you want to shape your stay.
Fishing History and Culture
The permanent exhibition “Fa temps el Barcarès” presents the lives of fishermen from 1850 to 1950 through photographs, documents and fishing equipment. The dates span a century, and the different materials present the subject from several perspectives. Alongside the historical context, the focus is also on the fishing traditions passed down through generations.
The Village des Pêcheurs was newly created to preserve the roots of Le Barcares and its traditional fishing heritage. It serves as a venue for traditional festivals, exhibitions, book signings by Catalan authors and events celebrating Catalan culture. The programme varies from event to event. If you would like to include a specific event in your trip, check in advance what is planned during your stay.
The Maison des Arts in Le Barcares focuses on a different theme each month, with exhibitions and debates. If you are interested in a particular subject, check in advance which theme is scheduled for the time of your visit. In Port-Barcarès, Le Lydia was among the sites selected for a cultural heritage label.
Nature and Routes
The “Site des Dosses” area on the Étang de Salses-Leucate is a refuge for biodiversity. More than 200 plant species and 50 bird species may be found there, including several protected or notable species. Which species you can observe varies with the seasons.
There is also an interpretation trail at the Site des Dosses. It provides a thematic framework for discovering the area; trail conditions may vary. The natural features and the trail offer different ways to explore the Site des Dosses during a stay focused on biodiversity.
The Vélosud greenway starts in the village of Le Barcares and heads towards Rivesaltes along a protected, dedicated route. Maintenance and conditions may change, so check the current route conditions before setting out.
A Seasonal Visitor Attraction
La Ferme du Barcarès includes a 1,500 m³ aviary in the centre. The attraction is open seasonally. More than 300 animals are said to be on display across two hectares. Pony rides are available, and visitors can feed the animals. Activities may follow seasonal schedules. If you plan to visit, check opening times and the activities available in advance.
