In Siran, documented architectural history, a Gothic chapel with frescoes, and walking trails through garrigue, pine forest and vineyards come together. These themes can help you decide whether the village suits your stay: you can focus on culture and landscape, or combine the two.

Churches and medieval traces

The church of Saint-Baudile in Siran has been documented since 1208 and was rebuilt in the early 15th century. The early record and later building phase provide two points of reference in its history. Anyone interested in the development of religious buildings will find a tangible connection to the village's history here.

The Porte de la Bade is also one of the surviving medieval gates in the surrounding wall. The gate is topped by a clock tower. Its architecture offers a different point of interest from the churches: here, the combination of a historic town gate and the tower above it draws attention to a distinctive architectural detail.

Notre-Dame de Centeilles and its frescoes

The present-day chapel of Notre-Dame de Centeilles is Gothic in style and dates from the 13th and 15th centuries. It was built on the site of a Romanesque church. Its remarkable frescoes add an artistic dimension to its architectural history. The chapel lies at the foot of Pic Saint-Martin, making architecture, earlier building history and landscape different aspects of the destination to explore.

If architectural history and religious art are your main priorities when choosing a destination, Centeilles offers a distinct focus. Saint-Baudile and the Porte de la Bade add further connections to Siran and its medieval past.

Walking trails through garrigue and vineyards

The Siran La Garrigue walking route is an easy 8.3-kilometre circular trail that takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It crosses limestone plateaus covered in dense garrigue vegetation. The approximate duration gives you a concrete timeframe for planning, while the landscape describes the character of the trail.

The route is marked in blue as a local trail of special interest. From Siran, follow the direction marked “Chapelle des Centeilles” to the car park in front of the chapel. Another named walk, the Siran–Centeilles route, starts at the chapel of Notre-Dame de Centeilles and passes through a pine forest and vineyards. The two routes therefore offer different landscapes: limestone plateaus and garrigue on one, forest and vineyards on the other.

Take care on the Siran La Garrigue route in extreme heat or heavy rain. Markings and access conditions can change locally, so check them before setting out. You should also check local conditions before departing on the Siran–Centeilles route.

Wine tasting in a former winery

Mon Jardin de Vignes offers wine tastings at its winery. The wines are made using traditional methods in a former winery dating from 1907. The tasting is therefore connected to a specific production site and its former use. This adds an insight into winemaking to the themes of architectural history and walking. As tasting options may change, ask about current availability before your visit.

The places and trails mentioned offer different points of interest, so there is no need to give every interest equal priority.
