Discover Le Soulié
Accommodation in Le Soulié
Le Soulié offers a range of points of interest for a hotel stay: wetlands in the Somail massif, religious buildings and a château connected with rural history. To help you decide on your trip, it is useful to distinguish these themes from the specific route profiles: culture and landscape describe the main themes, while the length and difficulty of the circular routes allow for a practical comparison.
Wetlands and elevation
The Réserve biologique dirigée des Tourbières du Somail includes the commune of Le Soulié and was expanded in 2026. It consists of three peatland sites in the Somail massif at around 900 m in elevation. Thus, the peatland area extends beyond a single site, while the elevation remains an approximate figure. If you look for wetlands and protected nature when choosing a destination, this area is a key point of interest in Le Soulié.
The Calvary cross of Saint Brancary stands on the heights of Le Soulié, 954 m above sea level. It adds a religious point of interest at the village’s elevation to the wetland landscape. The precise elevation of the cross differs from the approximate elevation given for the peatland sites: in this way, a single monument and a protected area with three sites represent different landscape associations.
Religious and rural history
The Château de Grandsagnes combines an architectural detail with a historical connection: it houses an ice house and, as a monument, tells the story of Le Soulié’s rural history and economy. If you are interested in the area’s history beyond its landscape, you can therefore appreciate the château both for its architecture and for its significance to the rural past.
The Church of Saint Jean in Le Soulié was built in 1673. The Way of the Cross at Saint Brancary has 14 stations. The church and the Way of the Cross represent different forms of religious heritage: the church can be dated by its year of construction, while the Way of the Cross is defined by its clearly numbered sequence of stations.
Two circular routes with distinct profiles
The Randonnée des Planques is a difficult 17.5 km circular hiking route. It crosses old stone-slab bridges over the Arn. In addition to distance and difficulty, a specific bridge feature is therefore part of the hike’s profile. Weather and trail conditions can affect the difficulty, so check current route conditions beforehand.
Circuit Bleu 14 – Espace VTT-FFC Salvetat / Haut Languedoc is an easy 12 km mountain biking loop in Le Soulié. Compared with the hike, it is shorter and rated easier, but it involves a different mode of travel. This lets you weigh up a longer, difficult hike against a shorter, easy mountain bike ride. Check current conditions for this route too.
Practical information
The Le Soulié–Église bus stop is served by the Béziers–St-Chinian–St-Pons–La-Salvetat route. As transport services may change, check the current timetable before travelling.
Les Rives de l’Arn has an equipped picnic area. If you plan to use it, check the current facilities in advance, as amenities may change.
