Villennes-sur-Seine offers a range of options to help you plan your stay: exercise on a fitness trail, paddle routes on the Seine, exhibitions and historic sites. You can shape your time around the subjects that interest you most, taking in both current activities and the town’s history.

Exercise and paddling in Villennes-sur-Seine

The Parcours sport et santé is a 2.5-kilometre loop starting at Place de la Libération. It has nine stations for strength-training exercises. This sets the loop apart from the water-based activities: it follows a set distance with several exercise stops, rather than being described as a paddling route.

The Club de Sport de Pagaie Les Ragondins offers two different canoe or kayak routes. Parcours A is a two-hour round trip from Villennes-sur-Seine towards Médan. Parcours B follows the small arm of the Seine, passes Île de Migneaux and continues to the stone bridge in Poissy. The routes therefore differ in their descriptions and directions: an approximate duration is given for A, while B is described by its route past the island and its endpoint. Check the route details before setting out.

Stand-up paddleboard (SUP) hire is also available in Villennes-sur-Seine. The service is seasonal and may change, so check availability in advance. This helps distinguish the water-based options: canoe and kayak circuits are available alongside seasonal SUP hire, with Parcours A and B each offering their own points of reference.

If you prefer to include puzzles in your sightseeing, try the game EVA Les Tisseurs du temps. It features two short routes in Villennes-sur-Seine with geolocated puzzles. Its playful approach differs from the fitness loop and paddling routes: here, the puzzles shape the experience, while the other activities focus on exercise or the route itself.

Exhibitions, music and local history

Exhibitions are held at Salle Fordan throughout the year. The art forms on display include painting, sculpture, photography and collage; the specific exhibition programme may change. The Soirées Musicales de Villennes are a recurring event on the town’s cultural calendar, with a particular focus on the piano. Their dates and programmes may also vary. Check which events coincide with your stay before travelling.

The railway station and the banks of the Seine also point to different aspects of local history. The station bears the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” (Regional Heritage) label. The Port aux Chevaux on Quai de Seine dates back to a time when the Seine served as a transport route before the railway was built. The station’s label and the port’s history therefore highlight two distinct historical aspects: the station’s regional heritage and the river’s former importance for transport.

Église Saint-Nicolas preserves remarkable carved capitals and old stained-glass windows. It is open year-round for individual, self-guided visits. Check access arrangements locally before planning your visit. Alongside the exhibitions and music events, the church offers another cultural stop, with a focus on its architecture and interior features.

Parkland and getting there

Parc du Dr Fauvel contains a grotto with three artificial cascades. The landscape featuring the grotto and cascades was created in 1869 under the direction of landscape architect Louis-Sulpice Varé. The park is also part of the walking routes known as the “Boucles des Vergers de l’Ouest parisien.” For planning purposes, you can combine a specific landscape feature with its historical context; the park’s inclusion in the named walking routes is a separate aspect.

For travel by train, the Transilien Line J is one useful reference: Villennes-sur-Seine is about 25 minutes from Paris Saint-Lazare station. As this is an approximate journey time and schedules and operating conditions may affect it, check the connection before travelling.
